Folk icon Joni Mitchell found unconscious in her Los Angeles home, rushed to hospital: report

Folk-music icon Joni Mitchell was rushed to a hospital Tuesday after being found unconscious in her Los Angeles home, according to a report.

Paramedics went to the 71-year-old singer’s house after getting a 911 call for an unconscious female, TMZ.com reported.

Mitchell regained consciousness on the way to the hospital and was being treated in the intensive care unit Tuesday night, according to the website.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the medical emergency.

The Canadian-born Mitchell, who epitomizes the Woodstock generation, has had a long history of health problems, surviving polio and scarlet fever as a child.

She’s was diagnosed several years ago with Morgellons disease, a rare condition that causes people to experience a crawling and biting sensation to the skin.

“Fibers in a variety of colors protrude out of my skin like mushrooms after a rainstorm,” Mitchell said in a 2014 interview. “They cannot be forensically identified as animal, vegetable, or mineral.”

The winner of eight Grammy awards, Mitchell is best known for her hits “Big Yellow Taxi,” “Woodstock” and “You Turn Me On, I’m a Radio.”

She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997

Joni was found unconscious in her home this afternoon. She regained consciousness on the ambulance ride to an L.A. area hospital. Legendary singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell is in a coma and cannot respond to anyone, according to TMZ.

Mitchell’s close friend Leslie Morris has also reportedly filed legal documents to obtain conservatorship over her.

Her official diagnosis has still not been revealed. The 71-year-old was rushed to the hospital late last month after collapsing in her L.A. home.

Mitchell’s rep did not immediately respond to request for comment. The last update on her health was posted to her official website on April 3.

“Joni remains under observation in the hospital and is resting comfortably,” read the statement. “Her progress is encouraging as she continues to improve each day.”

Mitchell has smoked throughout her life, previously saying “six decades of smoking have robbed me of my voice.” She has also said that she suffers from Morgellons Disease, a medical mystery that includes lesions and irritable fibers underneath the skin.

The musician is known for such hits as “Both Sides Now,” “The Circle Game,” “Free Man in Paris” and “Help Me.” Her songs “Big Yellow Taxi” and “River” have been covered by many artists throughout the years.

Her last album of original music, “Shine,” was released in 2007.

Joni Mitchell is 'walking, talking and painting' as she recovers from brain aneurysm

Joni Mitchell is reportedly "making good progress" after suffering a brain aneurysm earlier this year.

Mitchell was hospitalised in Los Angeles on March 31, after being found unconscious at her home.

The singer suffered a brain aneurysm according to her conservator, Leslie Morris, who previously revealed that the musician is "undergoing daily therapies" at home after being released from hospital in the summer.

Now folk singer and friend Judy Collins has delivered "some good news" about Mitchell's health in a statement released on her Facebook page.

Collins writes: "I have just heard from a close mutual friend that Joni is walking, talking, painting some, doing much [sic] rehab every day, and making good progress — I have another friend who went through something similar – it does take a long time, three years for my friend, who has really totally recovered professionally and personally. I will try my best to see our songbird when I am in LA in the coming weeks – So – some good news!!"

Mitchell's attorney Rebecca J Thyne recently described visiting the singer at her home on June 26, telling People: "When I arrived she was seated at her kitchen table feeding herself lunch".

Thyne continued: "She also told me that she receives excellent care from caregivers round-the-clock. It was clear that she was happy to be home and that she has made remarkable progress. She has physical therapy each day and is expected to make a full recovery."
