Folk icon Joni Mitchell found unconscious in her Los Angeles home, rushed to hospital: report

Folk-music icon Joni Mitchell was rushed to a hospital Tuesday after being found unconscious in her Los Angeles home, according to a report.

Paramedics went to the 71-year-old singer’s house after getting a 911 call for an unconscious female, TMZ.com reported.

Mitchell regained consciousness on the way to the hospital and was being treated in the intensive care unit Tuesday night, according to the website.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the medical emergency.

The Canadian-born Mitchell, who epitomizes the Woodstock generation, has had a long history of health problems, surviving polio and scarlet fever as a child.

She’s was diagnosed several years ago with Morgellons disease, a rare condition that causes people to experience a crawling and biting sensation to the skin.

“Fibers in a variety of colors protrude out of my skin like mushrooms after a rainstorm,” Mitchell said in a 2014 interview. “They cannot be forensically identified as animal, vegetable, or mineral.”

The winner of eight Grammy awards, Mitchell is best known for her hits “Big Yellow Taxi,” “Woodstock” and “You Turn Me On, I’m a Radio.”

She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997

Poor thing. I didn't realize the effects she has been experiencing of late. I hope she recovers quickly.

I also didn't know about those health issues, and hope she gets better.

Joni was found unconscious in her home this afternoon. She regained consciousness on the ambulance ride to an L.A. area hospital. She is currently in intensive care undergoing tests and is awake and in good spirits. More updates to come as we hear them. Light a candle and sing a song, let's all send good wishes her way.

I also wish her the best. In common nomenclature, Morgellons has been renamed "Joni Mitchell disease". Because the medical field largely considered it a fantasy until Joni came down with it.

From what I understand, she's had a very tough time both emotionally & physically for many years.

IMO, it's really sad; I consider her one of the top 10 musical geniuses of our era.

"Singer Joni Mitchell is "resting comfortably," following her hospitalization earlier this week, says her publicity team.

On Friday, an update was posted to JoniMitchell.com: "Joni remains under observation in the hospital and is resting comfortably. We are encouraged by her progress and she continues to improve and get stronger each day..."

This sucks big time:

Quote:
Legendary singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell is in a coma and cannot respond to anyone, according to TMZ.

Mitchell’s close friend Leslie Morris has also reportedly filed legal documents to obtain conservatorship over her.

Her official diagnosis has still not been revealed. The 71-year-old was rushed to the hospital late last month after collapsing in her L.A. home.

Mitchell’s rep did not immediately respond to request for comment. The last update on her health was posted to her official website on April 3.

“Joni remains under observation in the hospital and is resting comfortably,” read the statement. “Her progress is encouraging as she continues to improve each day.”

Mitchell has smoked throughout her life, previously saying “six decades of smoking have robbed me of my voice.” She has also said that she suffers from Morgellons Disease, a medical mystery that includes lesions and irritable fibers underneath the skin.

The musician is known for such hits as “Both Sides Now,” “The Circle Game,” “Free Man in Paris” and “Help Me.” Her songs “Big Yellow Taxi” and “River” have been covered by many artists throughout the years.

Her last album of original music, “Shine,” was released in 2007.

FUCK.

The only good thing that could come of this (assuming she passes) is there MUST be a full autopsy so once & for all we will understand (& hopefully cure) Morgellons.

The medical establishment is 100% clueless about what the disease actually is. Based on reading a few years ago, the best GUESS is some sort of man made chemical that only effects a small % of people.

But it is real, & we do need to know.

But then there is this from http://jonimitchell.com/

Apr 28: Update on Joni's health

Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital - but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected. The document obtained by a certain media outlet simply gives her longtime friend Leslie Morris the authority - in the absence of 24-hour doctor care - to make care decisions for Joni once she leaves the hospital. As we all know, Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight. Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts. You may add your well wishes for her at the website WeLoveYouJoni.com

New article about Joni Mitchell. The story generated from Billboard Magazine.

Joni Mitchell Suffered a Brain Aneurysm: Sources

The singer has also been moved to a rehab facility, according to a new report.

What precipitated Joni Mitchell's weeks-long hospitalization is coming into view as sources reveal to Billboard that the singer suffered a brain aneurysm.

Mitchell, 71, was found unconscious in her Los Angeles home on March 31. She was admitted to an area hospital after which conflicting reports emerged concerning her responsiveness. A new report by Showbiz 411 claims "speech is difficult" for Mitchell, "but she’s communicating."

An insider tells Billboard Mitchell was expected to be moved to a rehab facility and notes her condition as "very serious."

On May 4, an attorney representing Mitchell cited her impending release during a court hearing concerning a request for conservatorship from her longtime friend Leslie Morris.

Mitchell has not returned home, a source confirms.

Billboard has reached out to a representative for Mitchell for comment.

One of the greats of our era. Probably the most talented & most influential female singer-songwriter.

I can't argue with that Geff. She's brilliant and an icon. In a league of her own.

David Crosby talks about Joni's health:

David Crosby is wishing the best for his longtime friend Joni Mitchell, who was hospitalized in March after being found unconscious in her home.

During a conversation with HuffPost Live about his current solo tour, Crosby offered words of concern and support for Mitchell, who was a staple on the '60s and '70s California music scene, along with Crosby and his collaborators Stephen Stills, Graham Nash and Neil Young.

"I have not spoken to her. To my knowledge, she is not speaking yet," Crosby said of Mitchell. "She is home, she is in care, she is in recovery. How that's going to go, we don't know yet. She took a terrible hit. She had an aneurysm, and nobody found her for a while. And she's going to have to struggle back from it the way you struggle back from a traumatic brain injury."

Just saw another update on Joni on her website, jonimitchell.com. I guess they are implying that David Crosby misspoke. It's really a tough situation, balancing her privacy and the public's concern about her. Anyway it sounds promising and hopefully Joni will make a full recovery.

Jun 28: Update on Joni's health
Leslie Morris, Joni's conservator, has approved the following statement to be made through JoniMitchell.com: "Joni did in fact suffer an aneurysm. However, details that have emerged in the past few days are mostly speculative. The truth is that Joni is speaking, and she's speaking well. She is not walking yet, but she will be in the near future as she is undergoing daily therapies. She is resting comfortably in her own home and she's getting better each day. A full recovery is expected." You may leave your well wishes for Joni at WeLoveYouJoni.com

Good news!

Veteran singer/songwriter JONI MITCHELL is expected to make a full recovery following an aneurysm in March (15), according to the attorney appointed to her conservatorship case. The legendary Both Sides, Now singer was admitted to hospital following the health scare on 31 March (15), and her longtime friend Leslie Morris was appointed her conservator. Morris recently announced Mitchell was on the road to recovery after rocker David Crosby incorrectly informed fans his old pal was still not able to speak following her aneurysm. And now, attorney Rebecca Thyne has given fans more good news following a visit to see Mitchell on 26 June (15). In court documents, obtained by Rolling Stone, she suggests the singer is making "remarkable progress", and told her she's happy for Morris' conservatorship to continue until she's fully recovered. Thyne added that the reclusive star is "expected to make a full recovery".

Joni Mitchell is 'walking, talking and painting' as she recovers from brain aneurysm

Joni Mitchell is reportedly "making good progress" after suffering a brain aneurysm earlier this year.

Mitchell was hospitalised in Los Angeles on March 31, after being found unconscious at her home.

The singer suffered a brain aneurysm according to her conservator, Leslie Morris, who previously revealed that the musician is "undergoing daily therapies" at home after being released from hospital in the summer.

Now folk singer and friend Judy Collins has delivered "some good news" about Mitchell's health in a statement released on her Facebook page.

Collins writes: "I have just heard from a close mutual friend that Joni is walking, talking, painting some, doing much [sic] rehab every day, and making good progress — I have another friend who went through something similar – it does take a long time, three years for my friend, who has really totally recovered professionally and personally. I will try my best to see our songbird when I am in LA in the coming weeks – So – some good news!!"

Mitchell's attorney Rebecca J Thyne recently described visiting the singer at her home on June 26, telling People: "When I arrived she was seated at her kitchen table feeding herself lunch".

Thyne continued: "She also told me that she receives excellent care from caregivers round-the-clock. It was clear that she was happy to be home and that she has made remarkable progress. She has physical therapy each day and is expected to make a full recovery."
