Let's start with Wetson's which was a burger place like McDonald's. There used to be one in Brooklyn which my parents used to take us to after we visited my grandparents on Sundays. That was always good and fun. I always thought that Wetson's was THE burger place having heard of it and having eaten there many years before I'd ever heard of McDonald's or Burger King.

I remember Wetson's.

Another big fast food place in the 60s and 70s was Gino's. We used to have one in a few blocks from where I lived in East Orange, NJ. My folks took me there alot until we moved away in 1973.

We used to go to GIno's too. There was one on Rt. 46 in Clifton. My mother used to take us there when my father worked late. The building is still there. It's a Boston Market now. I LOVED Gino's.

Wow, I remember that Larry. I used to work at "Top Burger" on Rte 46 in Little Falls. Remember that place? Can't find a picture though.

Well there you go. Thanks Linda, first job I had (after numerous paper routes). Didn't last long there (but it was a start). And to think about it, I sure lasted longer than they did.

Just a very vague memory of Top Burger. I can't say that I really remember it that well. Do you remember The Red Chimney on Route 3? Or The Hearth on Rt. 46? The Hearth was practically right next door to Gino's. It's still there after all of this time.

I remember Gino's had the Gino Giant; sorta like the Big mac. And for a time the Hero Burger.

Definitely The Hearth. As for Top Burger, they sucked. Ate a burger there after my shift and man did I get sick. Maybe that was their way of firing me or something.
Either case I never went back, heck I was only 16, couldn't care less. And no wonder they went out of business and to never be heard of again.

I remember Wetson’s well. There was one on Sunrise Hwy in Bay Shore NY. The building is still there , it’s either a used car lot or a car rental place.

The ultimate irony here is that the long-gone Titus Oaks record store in Westbury, LI, was housed in a former Wetson's outlet.

If we're not going to get back on track, I'm going to take a new photo of what the former J&R site looks like, and post it here...

I'd like to see what happened to that corner of Manhattan. It looked like it was all going condo.

All of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens has gone condo!

But here is a photo of record collectors in Milan Italy! These guys look very familiar.

I'm going on a long awaited trip to Italy (not Milan, though) this summer and hope to hit at least one or 2 record stores if time permits, though my wife and daughter won't be pleased....

I will be in Italy in November but I would doubt my family will let me near any record store! :D
But we did find a very neat used/new CD store in Copenhagen last year that one could spend an afternoon in. Got a real nice 6CD superset of rare (European pop/ new wave) songs.

That's never gonna be a record store ever again.

Yeah, there isn't a record dealer who could afford that kind of rent. Officially the end of an era in Manhattan.

Not a record store but the famous BB King's in Times Square NYC all closed up. Now for me this is very sad. You can still buy the music you want via the web but clubs that play live music, they are truly precious. :sigh:

WOW! Great shows were preformed there. We all know obviously BB is now in heaven but how it is that he management team allow this icon of a venue close?

NYC has me very worried. And we all be should be worried and sad at the same time.
