there was a store near me that had a 45 wall just like that........in order from #1 to #100, and always up to date and neat, i think they cost 49 cents each.

Thanks Renny for sharing. Brings back childhood memories, doesn't it?

We had a store name "Two Guys (of Harrison)". a precursor to Wal-Mart who had something very similar. And Yes, the price was .49 cents. First 45 purchased w/birthday allowance, The Byrds "Turn, Turn, Turn". Caught the fever immediately.

What was yours?

The corner drugstore had the top 40 or more when I was a kid.

Are you talking about "Two Guys"? If so, I never heard it referred to with the "(of Harrison)" part, They had a really good record department, I used to go the one on Rt. 46 in Totowa.

I remember stores with a 45 walls like this AND album walls.

Looney Tunes in West Babylon still has a wall in the back with the top CDs of the week/ month. Really the only old school record shop left on LI. Also the place to go to on Record Store Day.

"Two Guys" actually started as "Two Guys from Harrison" (not "of") in - no surprise here - Harrison, New Jersey. They quickly spread throughout the northern New Jersey suburbs in the late 1950's - early 1960's period, but I don't know where else they might have existed, nor do I know much about what led to their later demise.

What I do know is consistent with Rick A's and LarryY's memories insofaras they had the best 45 (and LP) section, and pretty much anything else that would interest a teenage boy in that era, including (in my particular case) a lumber yard, tool, and hardware departement of the highest order.

I alway liked that these general stores (pre Walmart) had a fishing dept not far from the record dept.

Yeah, Two Guys had their Sporting Goods as well. I always loved checking out the bats and gloves.

Do you remember Great Eastern? They were a store very similar to or the same as Two Guys. I actually preferred them. They were both great stores though where you could get just about anything. The brick and mortar Amazons of their day.

That's the one that we used to go to, just a couple of miles east of Two Guys.

Yeah, that's the one. I used to work in the snack bar and graduated to the outdoor shed by the entrance gate selling hotdogs. They thought they were safe with me because at the time I didn't like hotdogs and therefore I would protect their profit margins. But overtime I got into them. I would make a tomato/onion sauce and stuff like that. I didn't get as bad as Babe Ruth but man, after 6 months I became almost addicted. Therefore a change of positions was required (by management).

That's the one Spiderboy. In Totowa off of Rt. 46 just south of 'Fountains of Wayne'.

They were initially owned by Voranado before they became a REIT. My father and grandfather worked for them as builders throughout the North East.
