Y&T bassist Phil Kennemore has died.

The musician, who had been battling lung cancer, died this morning (January 7) aged 57.

He was a founding member of Y&T, who were formerly known as Yesterday And Today, and played with thehard rock band at every stage of their 36-year history, helping the band sell over four million albums in the process.

A benefit gig for Kennemore was held on (December 31) at the Avalon venue in Santa Clara, California, where bands including Queensrÿche, Heaven & Hell and Testament played to raise money.

Dave Meniketti, singer in Y&T, paid tribute to his bandmate on his official website, Meniketti.com. He described Kennemore as "a sweet and passionate man… with an amazingly strong life force that has influenced everyone who ever had the opportunity to be called a friend of his".

Really sad. Benefit gigs were happening for him last year including that New Year's Eve show. Y&T before they went Hair Metal in the late 80's were a damn good band.
This sucks.

RIP - An excellent band ! I remember being in The Wax Museum record store in Massapequa NY in 1981 or 82 , I never heard of them at that time and the owner Neil had Earthshaker playing in the store , I asked him who they were and he handed me the LP cover , well I bought it that day and have been a fan since . I have been meaning to buy Facemelter , I will have to order it today. I bought my first Girlschool album that day too .

Sorry to hear this about Phil's passing. I don't anything on them but heard tracks here and there on comps.

Don57, sounds like "Earthshaker" wold be a good place to start? Also see that you bought this in Massapequa, LI. Did you ever hook up with JohnG or you no longer in the area?

Earthshaker is a great album as are Mean Streak and Black Tiger . There is a very good 15 or 16 song comp called "The Ultimate Collection" put out by HIP - O about ten years ago , it does not cover their entire recording career but its a good "best of" . Any of these 4 albums is a good place to start . My personal favorite is Earthshaker .
I'm still here , a life long Islander born and raised in good old Lindenhurst . No , I never met JohnG .
Massapequa had 2 very good record stores back then . There was the Wax Museum on Park and Clark then there was The Record Collection on Merrick Rd by the High School .
