This was posted on Facebook by BeatleFan (I think). The host that night will be Paul Rudd.

Very excited as I'm a big fan of both. :yay:

Paul McCartney, born 1942. Used to be in Johnny & The Moondogs and was one of the Nerk Twins. Also was a quarry man. Could have married Yoko Ono except that someone else got to her first and he was in love with someone else and really didn't want to marry Yoko Ono anyway.

Ughhh. The equivalent of the '70s SNL hiring the Partridge Family.

The show wasn't very good, but McCartney was. So nice not to see a veteran artists plugging a new album nobody cares about and playing 2 new songs.
Instead, we got 4 tunes from Paul and his band. They've been playing together for quite a while now and they were as tight as always. Paul's voice is showing it's age but he still sounds pretty damn good. The sound mix was quite well done too.

Jet, Band On The Run, A Day In The Life/Give Peace A Chance (his tribute to John Lennon complete with audience sing-a-long.) He sang one more whose title escapes me right now.

Yeah, Get Back as IP posted just before me.

That performance was just painful and sad to watch. Worst vocals I have ever heard from Sir Paul. Its time for him to drop some keys I'm afraid. But even with that I think was are getting near the end of him being able to be a 70 year old version of his 35 year old self.
To me the worst part was how all the songs had what I call the "old-man tempo". With all the fast songs done just ever-so-slightly slower than they should be.
Also , if you are gonna do a John Lennon song on what's essentially the SNL Christmas show , why not "Happy Christmas " instead of "Give Peace a Chance"?
I'm so depressed , we are all so old.
Here's one sad fact for you. He has played with this band longer than he has with the Ringo-era Beatles .

I remember when Paul Simon was on SNL a few years back -- he did exactly what IP suggested -- played songs from the new album, and they were TERRIBLE! I actually changed the channel.

Next time stick to Graceland or Simon/Garfunkel.

I thought Sir Paul was just nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Vocal.

I mentioned the vocals-but if you consider how old he is, he sounded fine. How could a drop in his range not occur at this age? I did wonder why "Give Peace A Chance" and not "Happy Xmas"-I'm with you there.
As tight as the band are I don't think they're anything special and I hate the drummer who feels a need to always act like he's in pain and draws attention to himself.
That being said, for a TV performance I thought it was pretty good. I'd imagine the spectacle of a McCartney live show hides some of the vocal issues. Does it? Or did the people that saw him this year notice at the shows?

Wow we have different opinions. Living here, I believe a special Paul Xmas SNL performance in NYC is a big deal. They played the legendary Apollo Theatre earlier this week. It adds even more energy and joy to the NYC/Rockefeller Center/Tree/Christmas experience at this time. I agree and was surprised about the vocals, and also about the entire sound mix. For example on my set you could hear the keys really sound like samples or sequencer voices from a keyboard...whereas in some of the recordings they sound more like the original horns...To my ears anyway. On SNL sounded like a five-piece and I didn't hear a ton of "production." I liked that it was rough. Seemed more real. I've heard The Corrs on that stage and you can hear everything. Everything in the studio! Over the TV it might be another matter apparently.
I've always throught that drummer Abe Laboriel Jr. added some needed funk to a great rocker who doesn't have a funky bone in his body. I love watching his contortions. Laboriel just plays a better "one" than a lot of similar rock drummers. Bit bigger pocket. So sometimes he doesn't drive...he kicks! Lastly, on the first track especially, I thought the band exuded confidence and commanded the stage, the room, the moment and the occasion. Just as they did at Citifield. The Lennon bit was appropriate...the whole city remembered the events of Dec. 8 this week. Two cents. Gary/NYC
