I like the choices of Donovan, Tom Waits, Dr, John and Darlene Love*

I also like Joe Tex

I suppose Neil Diamond had a couple of good songs with Cherry Cherry and Solitary Man

You can have the rest.

While I could care less about this ongoing travesty, like anyone, I'd like to see my favorites recognized.
So, here's to Tom Waits, The Beastie Boys, J. Geils Band and Alice Cooper. I also don't mind if acts like Neil Diamond, Donovan, Bon Jovi, Dr. John and Donna Summer get in.
But, honestly-not even a nomination for Chicago, KISS, Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, ELP, ELO, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, X, Yes, George Thorogood, Rory Gallagher, Journey, Procol Harum, etc.???
2 straight years Chic gets nominated but they can't give Chicago a nod?
Ah, why bother griping when we know the REAL R&R Hall Of Fame is in our hearts and not this yearly shitfest.

To quote Phil Collins (I can't believe I'm quoting Phil Collins!) "I Don't Care Anymore." I used to be interested, but the whole HOF thing has gone so far off the rails that I just can't be bothered.

Yes to Alice Cooper (the band), J Geils & Donovan. No to all the others, & I also agree that I have a long list of artists i feel are deserving that continue to be overlooked (for my list, just search this topic in previous years, it hasn't changed).

In all seriousness, i really hope we are talking about Alice Cooper the original band, not AC the solo artist.

Agree with you on all counts, Renny. And (to quote their recent song title) "WTF" is up with Heart still not being considered? But I'm happy to see Alice Cooper and Donna Summer on the list this year. The band and the diva both deserve it.

I believe they intended to nominate Chicago, but neglected to monitor their blood sugar levels and passed out before the 'ago'.

Not much to add - sham, travesty, joke, all apply. Can't really add to the ignored acts listed before. All I know is, I went to the HOF once. ONCE. And that's all I'll go, except maybe to pop into the gift shop. The whole time through, I couldn't shake that it felt like it was about anything but the music. That and the stupid no camera rule. When a guy who has played in the band of one of the inductees has to sneak a picture with the inductee's plaque like a criminal, it just ain't right.

I wasn't eligible, and they felt that they HAD to nominate somebody born on January 14, 1968. :D

Aside from who gets snubbed, the problem with the Hall of Fame is that they say that the contract
the HOF has with the artists who donated material means that fans aren't allowed to take pictures.

What's the point of a museum if the only way you have of buying a souvenir is to buy a postcard or book?

My prediction: Bon Jovi will be inducted.

Why do I say this? Because I fucking hate Bon Jovi.

I think they should have a 10-year window of eligibility, and after that you can't get in. That would keep them from continuing to induct so many second-rate or non-rock-n-roll acts from the 60's and 70's as they have done in recent years, and force them to recognize some 80's bands. Although with the taste displayed by the selection of Bon Jovi, I guess maybe that wouldn't work so well. Bon Jovi belongs in the HOF about as much as Grand Funk Railroad or Herman's Hermits.

The trouble with the 80's was that for the first time there was a wide divergence between what was good and what was popular in rock music. The HOF has responded by largely ignoring 80's acts, and erring on the side of popularity with those they do induct. If Bon Jovi was a 70's band they would never have been nominated, but they will likely get in as a token 80's band to "prove" that the nominating committee isn't stuck in the 60's/70's.
