So today was the College Hockey Showcase today at the new arena in Pittsburgh - an annual event featuring the one local Division I ice hockey program, Robert Morris University. Three games - women's, club, men's varsity.
What I didn't know was that they were going to have Brianne McLaughlin there - RMU alum, played on the women's national hockey team that won silver at the Olympics earlier this year. She was signing autographs. She was there before the women's game, and back before the varsity game. So I told my son, you know, you really ought to do this - how many times do you get to meet an Olympian? I said, besides, you might be able to get a picture. So he got a program, and he got a picture with her - and we didn't know this until right before we got up to her, she had the silver medal there.

I couldn't help it - I had to get my picture, too. When is a good-looking woman like that ever going to smile in a picture with me again?
Two cool side notes - my sister-in-law got to meet Michael Phelps through a corporate get-together thing (she's a big executive). I told my son, "Sure, she got a picture with Phelps - but at least you play the sport your Olympian does." Second note - after my son's picture, when he was moving over to take mine, I was the only person there who realized something - he still had the medal on. No one else noticed.
