When I heard The Most Important Man Alive by Momus I thought it was the greatest thing I'd ever heard but my friends couldn't even get to the second chorus. Cloth ears or what??

More times than I, or my friends/family would like to remember!

Happens all the time especially when I try to introduce someone to Coltrane.

+1

but most people that I turned Porcupine Tree onto went on to become fanatics (buying everything).
But music like beauty is in the eye (ear) of the beholder.

There were 4 times that I bought friends to Grateful Dead concerts who weren't really fans or didn't know much about them.

Each time, the GD happened to have a bad night, and I had to fend off questions on why I waste my money seeing them all the time. I honestly told them they didn't see good shows.

Wow...the same thing happened with me with Elvis Costello and his "Spike" tour. I'd been raving about my past experiences with Elvis and how great he was, but when I brought some friends to his "Spike" show, he just dropped a huge Cleveland Steamer on the crowd.

I can relate. I'm into German art films. I had a temporary roommate a couple months ago & she just wasn't sure how to handle Fassbinder & the Herzog/Kinski box!

I've been trying to get my one sister to understand the brilliance of Derek Webb for years now, but other than a song here or there she just doesn't get why I love his music so much. It's the same thing with some of my favorite movies. I say they're brilliant, thought-provoking, have spiritual references in them, etc., but for the most part she just doesn't see what I see in them. That's life I guess, lol.
