My folks got a Samsung BL-P1600 BluRay player for Christmas in hopes that it would sync up to their Samsung TV, so when you load a disc it will automatically switch from TV to BluRay. I don't own one yet but my sister said her operates that way as well. It appeared that both the TV and the player both had that sycning function - AnyNet or something like that. So we hooked up the player up via HDMI cable to the HDMI-2 port on the back of the TV. Their cable box was already connected via HDMI to the HDMI-1 port on the TV.
We put a disc into the player and sure enough it launched and we were able to watch the movie. However when we stopped the disc we got no signal as it went to TV MODE. After going back over this a few times I told them that it WAS functionong like it's been programmed to. It IS going to TV MODE. We just need it to go to HDMI-1 instead. And nowhere in the manual was there even mention of connecting through a cable/satellite box.
Like I said this was my first experience with BluRay so I could be totally wrong as to why it's not working. The only thing I know for certain is that it looked great and I need one.
Any help would be appreciated. I already checked the Samsung forums no threads there.
Thanks

Sounds similar to my setup with my Sony SXRD and the PS3.
To watch TV thru HDMI we set the TV to INPUT 6 (HDMI) and when I put on a Blu-ray via the PS3 I switch to INPUT 7 (also HDMI).
When I finish the Blu-ray (or DVD) I have to manually switch the INPUT's on the TV remote back to INPUT 6.

Thanks John, I showed my mom how to navigate through it - but my sister sold her on the idea based on how hers functioned. I may have to got to my sisters and map out how she's configured her setup. They're just frustrated that it's not working like they thought it would - although it seems to be functioning fine.

Each setup is unique but in general since TVs are more sophisticated than years ago, it is not simple anymore. Years ago you didn't car about inputs and different players, now you have to.

See if your Cablebox has CEC HDMI enabled. It is a feature in in the HDMI spec that allows any device to be controlled with one remote and to automatically turn on all the HDMI enabled devices in the system.
Heres the Wiki:
CEC Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) wiring is mandatory, although implementation of CEC in a product is optional.[67] CEC is a one-wire bidirectional serial bus that uses the industry-standard AV Link protocol to perform remote control functions. It was defined in HDMI Specification 1.0 and updated in HDMI 1.2, HDMI 1.2a, and HDMI 1.3a (which added timer and audio commands to the bus).[79][80][81][82] The feature is designed to allow the user to command and control multiple CEC-enabled boxes with one remote control and for individual CEC-enabled devices to command and control each other without user intervention.[80]
Trade names for CEC are Anynet (Samsung); Aquos Link (Sharp); BRAVIA Sync (Sony); HDMI-CEC (Hitachi); Kuro Link (Pioneer); CE-Link and Regza Link (Toshiba); RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI) (Onkyo); SimpLink (LG); HDAVI Control, EZ-Sync, and VIERA Link (Panasonic); EasyLink (Philips); and NetCommand for HDMI (Mitsubishi).[83][84][85][86][87]

I just bought a Sony Blu Ray player and for the past week have been watching without the hdmi cable connection. I just got a HDMI cable and ran it from the output on the player to the TV and just tried it. I noticed no difference in picture quality. What am I doing wrong? HEEEEEELP!

Just running the usual a/v cables from the player to the receiver and an optical digital cable to the receiver for sound.

So not component cables then, just the single RCA cable (usually with a yellow end)? If that's the case, then there must be some setting on either your TV or player to enable 1080/720 or whatever your TV can handle. If it was component cables to HDMI, you really won't see a big difference typically.
