All of a sudden, no bass. I checked the connections and to see if it was plugged in. Connections were fine and it's indeed still plugged into the power strip.

But apparently, it's not getting any power. The power switch is on, but the red light that indicated power was on...shines no more. :(

Any suggestions? Is it truly dead and I have to get a new one? I'd rather not, but I miss the bass. :sigh:

Were you listening to it when it died? Sounds like its either the amp or it could be a fuse.

I checked the fuse. Sure enough, it was blown. So I went to Radio Shack and got some fuses, hopeful that a new fuse would bring it back to life.

I bought a package of four fuses and it blew out three of them.

Ugh.

I know nothing about amps or electronics, so I think I'm screwed.

I've tried to convince myself I can live without the bass, but I miss it.

Maybe a couple of wires have crossed? That might cause fuses to blow, right?

(Yes, it's obvious I have no idea what I'm talking about. Me, I'd just buy a new sub -- life's too short.)

That's what I'm going to do, Vennie.

If I take it to a repair shop, the cost of the repair will probably exceed the cost of a new one.

Actually, Ven's advice is good -- I'd make sure there wasn't a stray piece of wire at one of the connectors that was touching a connector nearby. That could blow a fuse. If that's not the case, you are probably better off buying a new one, assuming it's not a real expensive subwoofer.

A couple months ago a guy I work with gave me an old power amplifier that he hadn't used for years. He was going to give it to Goodwill. He said one channel didn't work. I was debating whether or not I wanted to go to the trouble of having somebody look at it, but I took it anyway. When I got it home, I took it apart and discovered two blown fuses inside, both on the same side, and replaced them. Now it works great. The positive and negative connections for each side are very close together, and in a tight spot, making it easy for a stray wire to cross if you're not careful.

I thought the title of this thread was a euphemism of some sort.

It was the obvious conclusion to draw, since it's Chris we are talking about.

Yeah, but do you really think he'd tell us if his "subwoofer" died? Honestly, I HOPE NOT.

In my experience, this sounds like one of those problems which can be easily solved either by (A) a costly visit to some type of an appliance repair shop, or (B) for ten bucks by some nineteen-year-old neighbor kid with an innate talent for motors and wiring.

Sorry Andrew. But you know Chris deserved that.

Everything's fine down below.

If you don't believe me, just ask your wife.
