As many KISS fans know, Eddie Van Halen was unhappy with David Lee Roth and wanted to leave Van Halen circa 1982. Eddie told Gene and Vinnie Vincent this over lunch one day and allegedly offered his services to Gene and Paul.

This coincided with Ace Frehley's as-yet-unannounced departure from KISS. Although Gene was intrigued with the idea of having Eddie in the band, he claimed that he convinced Eddie to stick it out with Van Halen and that was that.

However, it has now been revealed that Eddie did have some secret rehearsals with KISS. Here's a photo from one of those rehearsals:

Just think....if EVH had joined KISS back then, then the VH album 1984 would never have happened, he would never have done the solo on "Beat It", and he could have spent all these years being Ace in concert and copying his solos.

I'm sure EVH and Gene/Paul would never have butted heads over anything hahaha

He would have been around as long as Mark St. John -- minus the debilitating arthritis.

True. I think EVH would have started his alcohol abuse much earlier.

We'll never know how it would've turned out...but I'm glad this never happened.

I just think it would have been pretty funny for them to make a character for Eddie and have him appear in makeup only to turn around a year later and do the MTV unmasking.

"The mystery faces finally revealed...Gene Simmons...Paul Stanley...Eric Carr....and Eddie Van Halen, who looks about like he did a couple of years ago in Van Halen."

Eddie would have lasted five minutes in KISS. Here's a guy who just came from a band named after him, where he wrote all the music and was one of the two central figures in the band. I could see Gene and Paul telling him that he had to play more like Ace.

And I could see Eddie's reaction: "The next time you say that, you better be wearing a cup."

It would be an empty threat if Gene was wearing one his notorious codpieces.

Hey, if joining KISS would prevent him from making any more films like the ones he's made in the last 10 to 15 years I'm all for it.

haha yeah but I'd rather sit through a marathon of the worst KISS albums than to sit through Sgt. Bilko and his two Pink Panther films(which he wrote)

I could get a laugh or two out of the KISS albums.

Steve Martin did not make two Pink Panther movies. He did not play Inspector Clouseau.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
