I was looking at cd's on ebay and came across some very good best of comps from a seller in Russia. All of the cd's are on the Star Mark label . The packaging looks very nice , some liner notes are in english , some in Russian . Has anyone ever heard of this label ? I probably wouldn't buy from this guy , his feedback rating is 77 . But I will try to find a few of them elsewhere.

Probably boots if they're Russian with English artists.......

There are artists like Motorhead , Rainbow , KISS , Beyonce , AC/DC , Bee Gees and a slew more . The seller has a few pictures of the packaging for each title . They show label like Columbia , Rhino , EMI etc but then it also says Star Mark Compilations on the packaging. They look great ! I found 2 sellers on ebay selling these from NYC (seller i.d. ninona1) and Russia (seller i.d. lipstickzombie) . I read their feedback , they both have a few negatives but nothing to do with these being boots , just on slow delivery. I don't know what to do .

I still say they're probably boots, but that shouldn't stop you if you want them!

I know it's been a while since this conversation, but I'm curious as to whether or not anyone knows any more about these compilations. I seem to see more and more of them online all the time, but very little information as to their origins.

I have seen them (just the rock titles) for sale for $26 each at an indy shop by my house . On seperate occassions I asked different employees about them . I got answers from "I really don't know anything about them" to "the quality is good but the notes are in another language" . I couldn't get an answer on whether they are boots or legitimate. I have not bought any yet because I don't wanna lose the money if they are crap.

I'd guess the word "Russia" is a synonym for "bootleg". Mind you, many Russian boots are just as good as the real thing.........

A bunch of Star Mark comps have been showing up in my regular haunts. I picked up two Stones comps. Despite featuring the EMI/Virgin logo, they're definitely boots (or at least gray area, depending on the Russian copyright laws). Very professional packaging, no booklets but the liner notes are in English. Real CDs, not CR-rs, sound is fine, but basically they're nothing you can't put together by burning your own comp.

For those bemoaning the lack of an official AC/DC hits package, there is a double CD issued by this label.

I've seen many of these posted online for downloading. I haven't bought any, so I can't speak for the sound quality, but they appear to be attractive packages. The thing I find funny is that most of them that I've seen are boldly marked as being "Copyright Protected", yet they appear to be everywhere. I guess it's not too hard to crack that protection.

TRANSLATION: I'm gonna buy more of these.

They were out of the AC/DC russian best of boot at Looney Tunes today maybe because of last Saturday's Record Store Day or the fact that the Iron Man 2 soundtrack is out (essentially a best-of).

Looney had plenty of left-over vinyl from the RSD promotion but no Bruce or Stones. Bill bought the Drive By Truckers vinyl for his son.
I'm not into vinyl so I passed on really looking around for anything.

They did have the Blu-ray of Avatar out already.
