Outtakes form Blackout, Love at First Sting, & Savage Amusement interest me. Never much liked Crazy World.

Crazy World was way too slick-Keith Olsen's production was Hair Metal cheese. I missed Dieter Dirks for sure.
Face The Heat was much better.
Blackout is their masterpiece to me.
A career-spanning box with rarities I'd love and not just a hits collection like Box Of Scorpions although that was pretty decent.

There was a time in the 80's when the Scorps were just about all I played on the stereo.

For years they weren't on my radar. A girlfriend took me to a show (either the World Wide Live or Savage Amusement tour, can't remember which), & what hooked me (hope you're sitting down) was the amazing live back up vocals. In retrospect the vocals were SO GOOD that they may have been taped, but either way I really got hooked!

Three years after announcing plans to retire, and just weeks after completing their farewell tour, The Scorpions have revealed plans to continue on as a band.

“As the emotion built, it [not retiring] became a gradual decision,” frontman Klaus Meine tells Classic Rock magazine. “It’s one thing to say, ‘This is going to be the end of the Scorpions’ and another to do it. Our ‘Sting In The Tail’ album [2010] was such a success that a whole new generation of fans joined the party. It was amazing. And you know that with all the best parties it’s sometimes hard to find the door?”

There are plans for a new Scorpions album, featuring leftovers from the early 1980s.

“We started that over a year ago,” Meine confirmed. “It will be material that was never finished; songs with pure Scorpions DNA from a very exciting time. Once we close the book on the crazy touring schedule that’s something we’ll pick up again.”

There may also be an album of all-new Scorpions material in the pipeline.

“At this point nothing is out of the question,” Meine said. “When we said adios with SITT, our label, Sony Music, cried: ‘No, no, no… what about this idea? What about that idea?’ There are some offers you just can’t refuse. I don’t want to say too much right now but I can reassure you there is still life in those bloody old Scorpions.”

“We’ll just have to see what’s realistic,” summed up the singer. “We’re working on a documentary movie about the band’s history. We filmed the tour’s big finale in Munich which was very emotional.”

Who do they think they are, KISS??

And they're taking the Van Halen approach to a new album.

Talking to Classic Rock, guitarist Rudolf Schenker explained the band’s decision as being down to two reasons.

“We were asked to play on the first day (June 14), when Slipknot will headline. The problem was that we would have been on the second stage, not the main one. This would have meant us not having the chance to bring over a full stage set, and that isn’t something we were prepared to consider. We’d be cheating the fans, and feel we are worth a bit more than being anywhere other the main stage.

“There was also a financial problem, because what we would have been paid wasn’t very good at all. So we reluctantly turned it down.”

The band recently finished their final world tour. It lasted three years, but didn’t include a single UK show. And nobody it appears is more disappointed than the band.

“We desperately wanted to come over. We love playing in Britain. But again it was a money consideration. Everywhere we go, our fee is really excellent, and that allows us to give a full value show. But in the UK, we get very low offers, the sort we can’t really accept. That’s why we’ve not played there.”

However, there’s the possibility we will get to see the Scorps, who won the Metal Guru Award at the 2011 Classic Rock Roll Of Honour, next year.

“We hope to play a festival in 2014. We have just finished what will certainly be our last tour, but we have never said there won’t be live shows in the future. So, if the opportunity is there we will come over.”

Schenker also confirmed that while 2010’s Sting In The Tail will definitely be their farewell studio album, there will be future releases from the band.

“We are working on a live movie, and we’ve also had a fantastic offer from our record label. I can’t say what this is right now, but if it comes off it will be unique. We have never said we are splitting up, so there’s plenty to come.”

Some idiot thinks Slipknot is a bigger draw than the Scorps?

Love the Scorps, saw them 3 times with the "Monster of Rock" being the most memorable. It was usual hot day in Tampa that June 5, 1988 and when the Scorpions hit the Tampa Stadium stage the sun was starting it decent in the west. The cascading sunset / sunlight hitting Klaus and the band at the right time. They were into it and so was the crowd. What a show!

Here's the set list and comments about the show:

The Monsters of Rock Tour 1988 was a festival tour of the USA in 1988, headlined by hard rock band Van Halen as part of their promotion for their OU812 album with heavy metal band Metallica as well as other bands including Scorpions, Dokken, and Kingdom Come. It formed the first section of the OU812 Tour, the main part of which followed immediately after Monsters of Rock 1988. As one of the many well known Monsters of Rock tours, the tour featured an impressive line-up, especially for a single day event, and proved very popular.
