Inspired by IP disco/rock thread, I thought it'd be fun to come up with a list of classic rockers who tried to glom onto the new wave movement with a song or album or two. Who revved up the guitars for some power pop? Who plugged into a synth to channel their inner Kraftwerk? Let's make the cut-off date 1985. Lameness is not a cause for disqualification.

She's So Cold--Rolling Stones (I think Emotional Rescue is more new wave than Some Girls)
Si Si Je Suis Un Rock Star--Bill Wyman
Young Turks, Tonight I'm Yours--Rod Stewart
Clues, Johnny and Mary--Robert Palmer
Don't Pay the Ferryman--Chris DeBurgh
It's Still Rock & Roll To Me--Billy Joel (and most of Glass Houses)
Yellow Pearl--Phil Lynott (w/ an assist from Midge Ure)
Clones (We're All)--Alice Cooper
How Do I Make You?--Linda Ronstadt
The Wanderer--Donna Summer
Black Cars--Gino Vannelli
Twilight Zone--Golden Earring
Sample and Hold--Neil Young
Dancing in the Dark--Bruce Springsteen

Bob Dylan had some not very good brushes with synth/new wave in the mid-80's. Some parts of the Empire Burlesque....the awful version of When The Night Comes Falling From The Sky comes to mind. Parts of Knocked Out Loaded and Down In The Groove too...Drifting Too Far From The Shore at least.

Pretty lean times............most of his '80s albums (aside from Oh Mercy).

Well, now, be fair -- everything off of Mad Love, as Murdog said.

By then, they were homaging the New Romantics, I'd say. Not particularly well, but I can hear it. Let's say "The Other Side Of Life" is their take on something like "The Chauffeur."

I'll give ya "The Other Side Of Life" although I found that more Proggy. But really those albums were more AC/AOR than anything else and I did like them a lot. Shame they sacked Moraz and made him cry on Judge Judy!

True story IP? Wow, what a shame. I know Moraz was with them for over 10 years but why lower yourself to this? Moraz is a killer keyboardist. Love the one-off album "Refugee" he made with the ex-members of Keith Emerson's band "The Nice".

The Moodies didn't believe in peace and love as they raked Moraz over the coals. They never allowed him any songwriting credit-and his input was invauable with the Moodies as he revitalized them and updated their sound completely.
He was fired during the Keys Of The Kingdom sessions in 1991 and the moodies went so low as to claim he was never a member-just a session guy. Yeah right!
I vaguely remember him on Judge Judy sobbing at his treatment.
Update:
I found some info and it was on Court TV! I knew I saw it on TV though!
here's what I found:

YES, the Moodies were once on Court TV in January of 1993. Fellow "member" Patrick Moraz sued them over royolties he felt he was deserved after they fired him in 1991, during the making of Keys of the Kingdom.

Moraz had moved to California and as far as the other four guys were concerned; he was no longer available. And, they were paying him per album. He was not getting a percentage of the total sales as Edge, Hayward, Lodge & Thomas were.

Therefore, Moraz only obtained about 90,000 some dollars in the suit and not the 4 million plus he was seeking.

"Them" by Carly Simon...which isn't about giant ants, but still features Carly trying to intone like Gary Numan. (There are a few similar awful moments from 1980's COME UPSTAIRS, but at least she scored a hit with "Jesse.") And speaking of Gary Numan, Robert Palmer came up with a great song when he collaborated with the guy for "I Dream of Wires."

I agree in general, but I have to give props to Infidels as well (although its production reflects the time period). I ignored most of the others - but I was surprised that Empire is rated as high as it is (at allmusic at least). Oh Mercy is definately the Bob's album of the decade, though.
