So I re-read the thread from the beginning, get all worked up for some pizza, then get totally turned off by the detour into "frozen pizza" (ugh)... but thanks to JohnG for the nice save at the end!

This was my favourite pizzeria when I was little. Maybe you New York guys have eaten there? I don't think they'll deliver to Tampa.

Tomorrow we go down the shore (not I said down not up-up would be Snookie territory), for the best pizza anywhere-Mack's in both Ocean City and Wildwood.
Beat it-I dare you. You can't.

Tony's Place in Valparaiso IN has been there since 1955. It's the best I have ever tasted.

Did chain pizza like Pizza Hut or Dominoes taste better too?

Yeah, I'll eat a Totino's Party Pizza in a pinch. Surprisingly tasty.

Those chains taste the same to me down here as they did in NYC. But I'm not sure the dough is made fresh anyway ... or made from scratch, I should say. Don't they get ingredients shipped in from central facilities so that all franchises taste exactly the same?

I'd assume so but I also imagine they used the local tap water to make the dough from the powder they get -- so in theory, if the water is the secret ingredient, the pizza would taste better even with national chains.

How did I ever miss that place? I used to live on East 28th St and Avenue U, but I don't recall that pizzeria. Darn!

Man, do I have to go on a pizza quest in Brooklyn one day. I'd love to spend a day trying all the famous pizzeria's.

One of my biggest fears if I ever left NY would be the lack of comfort food. We get spoiled here.

Hate responding to myself-but we went to the shore and Mack's was even more delicious than ever. Good lord, it was pure genius. The best crust, the best cheese, the best sauce and the best herbs. Plus, they make it right in front of you and the ocean and boardwalk are right behind you.
If anyone ventures to Ocean City or Wildwood let me know and I'll guide you to pizza ecstasy.

My favorite food! It's just as good the next day cold right out of the fridge. In fact there's even a song about cold pizza by Christine Lavin or something.

That sounds great. I've always wanted to take a trip to the shore. :ohyes:

Here's a photo but it doesn't do it justice. We haven't gone to Ocean City yet-it's so beautiful there, and much more family oriented than other locales. Very classy. They have concerts on the boardwalk pier every summer and we saw Over The Rainbow last year.
This year however, the best choices are Little River Band or Winger and that won't do.
But if you and the wife/kids want a great place to go, Ocean City is really nice. If you do, let me know and the wife and I would gladly go. It's only about 60-70 minutes from us.
If not, we'll get there soon! And here's the pizza (again, the picture does not do it justice, but it's a general idea).

There is a great pizza shop in San Fransisco I go to whenever I'm in the USA called California Pizza Restaurant on 53 3rd St.

http://www.cpk.com/

Highly recommended.

We like the DiGiorno Crispy FlatBread Pizza, with Pepperoni and Fire-roasted Bell Peppers, if we go the frozen route. Add a little extra cheese, maybe a few slices more pepperoni. It's not quite as good as our home-made pizza from-scratch, but after a long hard day when you're too tired to cook, this comes close
