well, another massive fuck-up by the weather people in northeast ohio.
predictions of 12 inches or more of snow produced about an inch and half.
schools closed......parking bans were issued all over our valley........none of it was necessary at all. our city salt rucks and plows did not even come out.
once again they scared a lot of people for no apparent reason other than to get them to tune in to their station to up the ratings.
it is really getting ridiculous how bad the weather people are around here.
We got your foot of snow. Will pack it up and send your direction...if I can make it out the driveway..
I was on my way to Seattle to apartment hunt, but I decided to make a side trip to Little Rock to see my nephew and now I’m stranded until the weekend. I tried to get out today but my brother in law’s car got trapped. Had I managed to get to the airport, I would have spent six hours on the tarmac before flying to Dallas in time to miss my connecting flight, and spent the next three days sleeping in the terminal. Ironically if I’d gone straight to Seattle I’d have flown straight into their blizzard. Good times.

They scaled back the latest Forecast Of Doom (tm) for tonight into tom'w. We were on the edge of 2"-4" to 4"-6", I think. Now it's the edge of <1" to 1"-2".

My house was a winter wonderland yesterday morning as it turned out we got dumped almost 8 inches of snow when they said we would only get 2-4. The good news? It was very easy to move so I didn’t even need the snowblower and cleared all I needed in 20 minutes. A good workout without sacrificing my back. When it snows like this I always remember Jimbo and his dislike for snow. It would mean no ride to the city, no CDs, no movie day (and big problems on the LIRR if you went in). One of the first things Jimbo mentioned when I first was getting to know him around 1999 was his dislike for anything snow. Did anyone else get a little snow???

Here in MN, it's the same ol' stuff...... snow and more snow. Throw ass-biting cold into the equation, and it's "I hate winter!"
The biggest fall was a couple Monday's ago where we got about 8-10" in one swoop.
I like seeing people gripe about it all (those who live elsewhere). I always show them what we have. For instance, my newfound daughter (another story) texted me her temp in Texas yesterday..... 18° there. Mine was this at 6:33 yesterday morning:
I don't want to see or hear complaints about cold temps anymore.
We had around 3-4" Friday morning. I frigging hate snow.
My daughter had it worse - she was in the heart of the storm that hit Virginia. She lost power, and they closed all the roads between her job and her apartment, so she had to go to her boyfriend's that night.

I measured exactly 12 inches on my deck, which was pretty representative of the whole yard.
We don't get lots of snow regularly, certainly less then when I grew up here 50+ years ago... You could pretty much count on 2 or 3 big storms (4+ inches) a year and use all the snow days allocated... Nowadays if there is a threat of snow they close the schools...
The roads would get plowed usually by the end of the first day, and usually both sides of the street... Now if they plow it's a contracted pickup truck with a blade and maybe some sand or salt to put down and then only one lane period...
But now snow is a rare commodity here, certainly a winter storm...
After the big storm we got 4 inches 3 days later.
Now what gets me was the criticism of how it was handled. Everyone saw the I-95 catastrophe and proceeded to pile on. 45 mile backup lasting 24+ hours. 6 jack-knifed tractor trailers....when that happens nobody goes anywhere including rescuers and plows.. WHY DIDN'T THEY PRE-TREAT THE ROADS!?!?!
Easy - it started as rain, changing to snow w/in the first 2 hours and came down at a rate of 2 -3 inches an hour.
Pre-treating is not practical since it washes away in the rain. As soon as the temperature dropped (quickly) and the trucks wrecked, it was party over... Does not take long for I-95 traffic to pile up after that.. Even on the best days it's a very busy congested roadway... with no real alternative.
I'm just glad I'm retired and have no need to go anywhere in the snow. Been stuck in way too many of those crises in my life.
Of course the real weakness in this area is that we get people from all over the world and the US with many different driving styles and definitely a minority who know how to drive in snow and/or icy conditions.. that just increases the chances of an accident that ties up the roads...
What really screwed the pooch in this mess was the forecasting. First was 1-5 inches, expecting the light side of that forecast, then 3-6 same story, then it was 5+ inches maybe as much as 10 inches...
The snow may have been taken out of our forecast but the extreme cold hasn't. Basically 0 degrees here, coldest I've felt in a very long time, thank goodness for a warm home. My wife said she is not going out again for dinner so I ordered Chinese via Uber Eats.
Though we are cold right now, I have warm thoughts for our future, a future in Hawaii, yes we are going to Hawaii in October for 3 weeks! I had to buy 6 separate airline tickets yesterday as we will be touring the islands, island hopping I think they call it. Aloha.

northeast ohio is supposed to get 10 - 12 inches beginning tomorrow night, and it's not even 'lake effect'' which is when we usually get those kinds of totals.
good thing monday is MLK day, lots of people, and all the schools, already off.
we'll see how it pans out.

Seeing anywhere from 4” to 12” for here. We’ll see. My son should get home from work before it starts in earnest, but he’s due to go back early Monday morning. I’m very happy he’s in a newer, more reliable vehicle now.

Fortunately, with a shift in the storm path and some warmer temps, we didn't get the high end of the prediction. Things were changed last night to 7"-9". I cleaned up after the football game last night so my son would have an easier time getting to work today (at last check, he's had no customers and one phone call), and there were 3" then. Just got in from doing the real cleaning, and for the first time in my life, I measured 7". No, wait - 7" of snow. That happens pretty often. And it wasn't as wet and heavy as originally predicted (whereas I am wetter and heavier than I thought I'd be).

We got about 2 inches and then the rain melted it away, so nothing to shovel.
i just went out after dinner and did a little clean-up....about another inch fell and the city left that mess at my driveway approach........i just know those guys laugh when they do that.

We don’t get tons here (usually), but the attitude here about shoveling your walk kind of baffles me. On my block there’s only about 4 of us that do it. I’ve seen comments in our neighborhood FB group to the effect of “why bother?”
