Winter is almost here...and it's time for some California Dreamin'.
Choose your favorite 60's Los Angeles/Southern California group. I hopefully don't have any major omissions. A few I had to debate were Captain Beefheart, Three Dog Night (I think more of as 70's), The Bobby Fuller 4, Captain Beefheart, The Electric Prunes.
One judgment call......while bands formed that were LA based, many solo artists who were very much a part of the LA scene were from elsewhere.....meaining I left out people such as Tim Buckley, Harry Nilsson, Joni Mitchell (who was already listed on the Canadian poll) and others.
I have a 60's San Francisco/Bay Area polls that I'm finishing up....for later today or likely tomorrow.

Based solely on their 60s output, I voted for the Monkees. I listen to them more often these days than any other artist on the list.

The Monkees by default. I'm not a big fan of any of the 60's California bands.

I can't choose between Buffalo Springfield, the Byrds, and CSN&Y. I JUST CAN'T. It makes my brain hurt to try.

I only really like the Doors. The others have a few songs I like here and there, but I like almost the entire Doors catalog.

I like several of the bands listed but The Monkees are at the top of the list for me.

I agree with Renny that CSNY is more 70's, but as they were on the poll that's how I voted. Doors & Byrds tied for #2.

Love, followed by a tie between the Beach Boys & Monkees.

The Beach Boys!
The close runner-ups are Buffalo Springfield, the Byrds, and the Monkees.
As Renny pointed out, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young belong more to the 1970s.

I should have included Cannet Heat. Iron Butterfly was from San Diego. I probably shouldn't have put CSN on there, but I watched Woodstock recently.
My top choices are Zappa, Love, The Byrds, The Turtles, Buffalo Springfield, The Seeds, The Standells
I like everyone I put up.

Common sense tells me The Beach Boys because of the overall package-writing,ability as musicians and collective harmonies.
I'm still drawn to the heaven that is The Mamas and Papas.Love has to be another standout even though their reputation rests on three albums.

I don't care for many of the acts listed, but I love The Byrds so there you go. CSN with only one album don't qualify to me, otherwise it would be them. The Doors would be right there too. I love Zappa, but hate the Mothers material (does that make sense?). I detest the Mamas & The Papas, Grass Roots, The Turtles, The Association-I find all of that music so icky and dated I cringe when I hear a single note of it!
