Gwen Stefani has turned both "If I Were a Rich man" and now also the yodeling song from Sound of Music into pop hits, the first produced by Dr. Dre, I think, but the Sound of Music song is not very good. This has got to stop. Gwen Stefani used to be a rather interesting artist.

I don't know-an updated version "Do-Re-Mi" might be interesting.Maybe she could get Timbaland to produce it.

I find "Wind It Up" (w/ the "Lonely Goatherd" sample) to be very catchy.

Speaking of samples from musicals, Jay-Z turned "Hard-Knock Life" from Annie into a hit single.

The Beatles recorded "Till There Was You", from the musical "The Music Man".

Todd Rundgren and Utopia did "Something's Coming" from West Side Story.

Alice Cooper incorporated themes from West Side Story into "Gutter Cats vs. the Jets" from School's Out.

Yes, I thought about that one when I wrote the original post. I rather liked that one, but Jay-Z was criticized for going pop. I haven't bought that album yet, but I recently bought "The Blueprint", which is a hip hop masterpiece, IMO. Mercifully, no scratches on the blue case of my copy. They'll be sealed in the US, so if you buy it in a shop, you should be able to get it mint. But in the US, the stickers are on the shrink wrap, so you lose the sticker. Unless you cut out the sticker and put it under the back inlay. Some collectors do that.

BTW I got the Broadway Cast of Annie on CD, especially for that song "Hard-Knock Life". I'm also thinking of getting the OST and of course the DVD of the movie directed by John Huston (!).
