Good thing I have a shelf full of music reference books here at work for just such occasions!

I assume the version of "Boardwalk" on Rough Harvest is not the b-side version, but does anyone know for sure?

It was also on the "Cherry Bomb" CD single.

:ohyes:

Many of Mellencamp's singles had non-lp b-sides back in the 80s.

IIRC, Rough Harvest is all remakes, except for "Under the Boardwalk," which is the b-side version.

Jamie,

I post here [very!] occasionally, so I'm still new to this site. Anyway, your question got me searching through my boxes. If you can find it (I purchased mine in 1988 at the Tower Records in Tacoma, Washington)), there's a UK CD Video Release on Polygram (Serial Number 870 707-2) with your B-Side (one of two that I know of) of 'Paper In Fire.' The B-Sides/Bonus Tracks are as follows:

✓ Paper in Fire [Audio] (3:53)
✓ Never Too Old [Audio] (3:45)
✓ Under the Boardwalk [Audio] (3:52)
✓ Cold Sweat [Audio] (3:23)
✓ Paper in Fire [Video] (3:53)

Even after all these years, the disc has held up (it looks like it's the first incarnation of the Gold CDs) and fortunately didn't go through the CD Rot/Decay that many of my discs from that time frame (All of the Nimbus New Order & David Sylvian Imports & Picture Discs) experienced. I've never played the CD Video but maybe now I will. Thanks!

I hope this helps while I'm off to Target to track down that Woodstock 3-CD Set that everyone is talking about (If 'Isabella' is the Alan Douglas Mix with all the fake crowd noise and not the 'Eddie Kramer' Mix, I'll choke on my dinner!!!),

Later,

bg (Robert G. from CA)

The only way you'll be able to do that is you have a Video CD player or a laserdisc player that can play those. They're pre-CD ROM and the Video CD format never really took off.

Dr. Chris,

Thanks a Bunch!! You saved me the despair & agony of ruining my sole copy of the disc this evening. That also goes for trying to play the other release that I thankfully found in the same crate. Yet another format that will never see the light of day! Anyway, here's the full track list for The Other One (870-729-2):

✓ Cherry Bomb [Audio] (3:28)
✓ Check It Out (Live - No Venue Listed) [Audio] (4:49)
✓ Shama Lama Ding Dong [Audio] (3:15)
✓ Check It Out [Audio] (4:20)
✓ Check It Out [Video] (4:28) .... directed by Jonathan Dark (?)

By the way, it's amazing how long his hair grew between the two releases. Plus he was still using the 'Cougar' Pseudonym.

I've still got to get that Targetstock 3-CD Set before the evening is over!

Later,

Robert G.

You're welcome.

I had a CD video of David Bowie from the original Sound & Vision box set. I wasn't able to watch it for a few years until I bought a laserdisc player. Most CD videos had maybe one video and a few audio tracks. I can see why the format never took off.

The only CD Video I still have is the Dire Straits Twistin' By The Pool EP. (Well, almost the EP, since it inexplicably leaves off one of the original tracks.) I haven't played it in ages. There's one for sale on Amazon for over $330 -- for that kind of money, I'd seriously consider selling mine.

I used to have the original Sound + Vision set, but I think I ended up replacing it with the reissue, which featured a CD-ROM instead of the CD Video disc.

If I had one of those, I'd be making a copy and selling toot suite. If someone's willing to pay stupid money (assuming you could get even close to the $330), I figure it's best to relieve them of it.

Way back in the first season of the Arena Football League, my wife and I had season tix to the Pittsburgh Gladiators. During an intermission, the cheerleaders would come out and toss out these little sixty-nine cent green plastic footballs. Finally, at the last game, I got one, which I thought was pretty cool. The guy next to me was trying to impress his girlfriend and said he'd give me $20 for it. I just laughed. Then he pulled out the $20. SOLD! I told my wife we should leave in case he sobered up and wanted his money back.
