Police to review death of Rolling Stones' Brian Jones
Police are reviewing the investigation into the death of The Rolling Stones' guitarist Brian Jones after the emergence of new evidence.
Detectives in Sussex are re-examining the case from 40 years ago after being handed relevant new documents, reports BBC News.
Jones was found dead, aged 27, in July 1969 at the bottom of a private swimming pool at Cotchford Farm in Hartfield, East Sussex. A verdict of death by misadventure was recorded at the time, although some fans have since claimed he was murdered.
A spokesperson for the police said it was too early to say whether a new investigation will be launched, but they will look at the "new papers".
Rumors about Brian being murdered have been floating around for close to twenty years (at least). I give them a certain amount of credence in that he died in an era in the UK when the police and the British media were actively conspiring with one another to frame British rock stars (including Jones) in drug busts.
ROLLING STONES' CHARLIE WATTS HAS NOT QUIT: OFFICIAL!
Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts has not quit the legendary rock'n'roll band, his spokesman has told Uncut.co.uk this afternoon (September 2).
Claims made earlier today on Australian website undercover.com.au that Charlie Watts had quit The Rolling Stones were posted online at 10am (GMT), quoting an unnamed source in the band’s inner circle who said the drummer “will never record or tour with the band again.”
The story was subsequently picked up by a number of online news services before a statement was released to Uncut.co.uk at 5pm (GMT) by the band’s UK spokesperson.
The statement reads: “Contrary to a fabricated story that ran this morning on a small music web site in Australia, drummer Charlie Watts has not left The Rolling Stones.”

Just wondering what their next move will be. New album? Tour? Concentrate on the vaults? I'm sure Universal wants something more out of the contract than the CD reissues.

I think they shuold play a string of shows in NYC at the Garden, maybe 20 or 30. Like Michael Jackson was gonna do in London. Fans would come from all over to see them, and no road hassles to worry about.

The Rolling Stones' former guitarist Bill Wyman has slammed music simulation video games such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band, claiming they are causing fewer people to take up learning real instruments.
The criticism comes today (September 8) – the eve of the release of 'The Beatles: Rock Band' computer game, which allows players to play along with the Liverpool legends' back catalogue through their consoles.
"It encourages kids not to learn, that's the trouble," Wyman told BBC News. "It makes less and less people dedicated to really get down and learn an instrument. I think it's a pity so I'm not really keen on that kind of stuff."
The Rolling Stones' music features in previous Guitar Hero games.
Wyman was speaking at a recording session at The Beatles' former haunt Abbey Road studios, where he was recording a Beatles cover for future release in aid of the Children In Need charity.
Pink Floyd's Nick Mason was also present. He echoed Wyman's words but admitted he wouldn't mind his band's songs being used on such a computer game in the future.
"It irritates me having watched my kids do it," he said. "If they spent as much time practising the guitar as learning how to press the buttons they'd be damn good by now."
Abut whether he'd mind Pink Floyd's songs being used in a music simulation game he added: "I think we'd consider it. I think everyone's looking at new ways of selling the music because the business of selling records has almost disappeared."
The creators of the Rock Band games defended their products.
"We're constantly hearing from fans who were inspired by Rock Band to start studying a real instrument," explained Alex Rigopulos, co-founder of Harmonix Music Systems, who make the games.
Ex-Rolling Stone Mick Taylor threatens to sue over unpaid royalties
September 14, 2009
Former Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor says he is considering suing the band for unpaid royalties.
Taylor played in The Rolling Stones between 1969 and 1974, and was replaced by Ronnie Wood in 1975.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, the guitarist revealed that he hasn't been paid any royalties since 1982, when the band signed a new record deal with CBS Records.
He added that he now regrets not instructing a lawyer to seek continued payments for his playing on albums including 'Sticky Fingers' and 'Exile On Main Street'.
"I should have got a lawyer," Taylor said. "But instead I called them rude words and asked how they could just stop paying me."
He added that he is still keen to address the issue now.
"They all know it's not right. In fact it is outrageous. They get all the money and I get the plaudits and praise, even from Mick [Jagger]," he said. "I've tried to talk to Mick a couple of times, but I realise that hiring a lawyer is probably the only way they'll take me seriously. But they figure I'm not going to do anything about it."
Taylor added he now plans to formally contact The Rolling Stones about the unpaid royalties: "I'm going to do something about it because it’s morally wrong to cut my royalties for those six albums."
Elsewhere in the interview, Taylor stated that without his contribution to the band, songs including 'Sway' and 'Moonlight Mile' wouldn't have existed.
"Let's put it this way – without my contribution those songs would not have existed. There's not many but enough, things like 'Sway' and 'Moonlight Mile' on 'Sticky Fingers' and a couple of others," he said.
"It encourages kids not to learn, that's the trouble," Wyman told BBC News. "It makes less and less people dedicated to really get down and learn an instrument. I think it's a pity so I'm not really keen on that kind of stuff."
Yep. I said this a little while back. It's a damn joke and an insult to musicians everywhere. No kid is going to pick up an instrument when he can sit on his ass and push buttons on a piece of plastic, eat a bag of Cheetos and "rock out" to the latest overplayed classic rock song. The only good-the artists do get some money and probably more than from album sales, but otherwise? LAME!!! Play a frickin' instrument! On a side note, I continue to develop the much in demand Oboe Hero game with the finest Austrian engineers money can't buy.

Its worth mentioning here that The Beatles after all these years still win the "greatest band in the world" title after the madness created by their remasters series. I've never seen such panic among collectors to get the boxes.
You'd hardly know that the Stones also released remasters this year. That campaign was a dud compared to The Beatles roll-out.
Shame really that the Stones just don't protect and take care of their legacy like Apple Records and EMI do with The Beatles.

The Beatles have a large advantage in that they dropped out near their peak and there was less opportunity for people to fall out of love with them. It's kind of like the "premature death" bump. Based on the number of posts I've seen bitching about the lack of bonus material on CDs, The Rolling Stones are guarding their legacy a little too well for some people. The Stones re-mastered their albums while CDs were still relevant and gained as much as possible from that effort. In the final analysis, the Beatles are perceived as the greatest band in the world because they are, not because EMi has a tight sphincter.

I've been thinking exactly the same as of late. It goes along with my despising most hip hop. A dj is a musician????

While i haven't heard the new Stones RM's, most of the buzz is that they're very bright. Abkco set the Stones standard really high with the SACD's of a few years back; they continue to be the best sounding rock SACD's I've ever heard.
edit: I wrote this before reading JohnG's post before mine!
