Lately I've been on a Who binge; a few weeks back, I ordered several titles from eelpie.com, Pete Townshend's UK label that put out several cool solo Townshend titles back in the early 'aughts. After about two or three weeks, I sent of an e-mail asking if everything was OK with my order; I quickly got an e-mail back apologizing for the oversight and mentioning that a "freebie" would be enclosed for my inconvenience.

I got the package from the UK today, opened it up, and my jaw hit the ground. I don't think I should say exactly what the freebie was, except that it was something that cannot be ordered from the eelpie.com website. Suffice to say that I was stunned. Again, I don't think I should say exactly what it was, other than it was a very generous gift and hugely appreciated. While I'm sure that Pete himself didn't personally send this to me, rest assured that I am now doubly willing to gladly defend Pete Townshend against anybody who wants to dismiss him as greedy. I'm just blown away on a very personal level by this.

In the meantime, I'm now listening to Disc 1 of "Live: The Fillmore 1996", an acoustic show in which Pete played guitar and piano, accompanied on keyboard and vocals by only Jon Carin: "Sheraton Gibson", "I'm One", "English Boy", "The Shout"--this is AWESOME!!!

Alternating between troubleshooting a cat caused speaker problem with a test disc & Tal Farlow Mosaic Box D1. My boy kitty has crushed 2 speaker domes & shredded 2 foam pieces designed to stop the tweeter's output from hitting the walls. I must love him; he's still alive & unharmed. He's the black & white one; he's done more damage to things (mainly the speakers, shredding carpeting & repeatedly shredding the dryer exhaust hose) in just under 2 years than the 3 other long time cats I've had did in their entire lifetimes combined.

Willis Earl Beal's Acousmatic Sorcery. Maybe if Daniel Johnston recorded lo-fi bluesy-soul it would sound like Beal. Raw, righteous and very soul-bearing.
