Sgt Pepper Drum Skin Sells For Over $1 million

A Beatles fan has spent over $1 million buying the drum skin used on the cover of the Sgt Pepper album.


Christie’s auction house sold the collectors item for £540,000. That’s just over $1 million US.

The skin was a hand-painted item that was only ever used for the cover of the classic 1967 album.

Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band was not only one of The Beatles biggest albums, it was also one of the most important albums ever from the rock era.

The Beatles began recording the album on December 6, 1966 and spent the next 129 days in recording. That was an amazing time for a recording in the 60s.

The album was the first of the concept albums, a format that was repeated many times through the 70s.

The meaning of the song lyrics are still debated today. Was ‘Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds’ really about LSD or just something John’s son Julian said' Does John really refer to Paul being dead when you play the inner groove backwards'

The cover also featured an array of personalities. Look for Lenny Bruce, Bob Dylan, Dion, Tony Curtis, Marilyn Munroe, and Sigmund Freud on the cover.

The Sgt Pepper skin was just one of many Beatles items that sold at the auction.

John Lennon’s tinted glasses, worn on the cover of Mind Games, sold for $63,991. A John and Yoko signed collage sold for $44,370 and the hand-written lyrics to ‘Give Peace A Chance’ sold for $830,000.

How come these articles never state exactly who is selling all of this stuff--and where has it been stashed for 40 years?
