I'm going to be in San Francisco for a few weeks and would like to know the good shops where I can get some bargain CDs & DVDs.I'll also be in Tokyo for 3 days in case anyone knows a good CD shop there that isn't too expensive.

Any idea's ??

Thanks in advance

In SF, it's all about Amoeba Music on Haight and Stanyan. Just fantastic. There are lots of other little stores, but if it's in town, Amoeba has it.

In Tokyo, go to WAVE in Roppongi. Also Shibuya for WAVE and HMV. Shinjuku for HMV. And Shibuya and Shinjuku for smaller shops like Recofan and Disk Union.

In San Francisco, you should also check out Rasputin Music on Powell Street near Union Square. There's a Virgin Megastore nearby, but you won't find many "bargains" there.

If you'll be in the area for a little while, I would also recommend a day trip to Berkeley - you'll find the original Amoeba store, another Rasputin, and some good book stores.

I had a great time three years ago shopping for used vinyl (and J-pop CDs) in those smaller stores in Shinjuku and Shibuya..... You should be aware that some of these stores are not at street level, but one level up.

Also, when in SF, it would probably be worth a BART trip over to Berkeley for the record shops there (although I haven't been there in many years and don't know what still exists).
