Anybody got a spare $20,000 laying around not earning interest?? Alan??

You had me right up until that interest bit. All my spare $20,000s are getting interest - mainly from my wife, but still.

More seriously, I kind of get what they're going for when they make things like this, but I wonder how playable something like that would be to a lot of players. The lack of space between the pickups would give me concern - I tend to have issues w/third pickups, and since I move my hand around a fair bit, I'd think I'd be hitting the pickups way more often.

I have 3 really nice Les Pauls, a 2018 Blueberry Burst, a Slash Rosso Corsa (red) and a 2014 120th Anniversary Signature in a beautiful Caribbean Blue. I’d have to really sell one to justify a goldtop. Especially at $3k Gibson.

A friend of mine called me to tell me he was going to Guitar Center to sell his SG that he had bought a few months prior for around $1,200. They were only gonna give him $500 but he needed the cash. I told him, instead of driving the hour to Guitar Center, drive the ten minutes to my house and I’ll give you $550. He was like, “DONE!” I figured, cool another style of guitar to fill up my collection, and cheap.

It was the standard red one you always see. I had it for a couple of years before I realized that I had never played it after that first day I got it from him. To me the SG’s have a really weird fat narrow neck. A total chore for me to play. That was the first guitar I ever sold in my adult life. I thought, why am I holding on to this thing that doesn’t fit my style and that never comes out of the case.

I took it to my friend Bob Coffey who owns the local music store and he sold it for $700. He gets 20%. He gave me a check for $560. I ended up making ten bucks for doing my friend a favor when he needed help. And, I helped my dear friend Bob with his commission. :ohyes:

This may be a cautionary tale for any of us interested in buying "just one more guitar." When I first saw a smaller image of the photo, I thought someone had put stickers on the top of the guitar, not holes!

Quote:
ABOUT THIS LISTING
Well, this is something different. I bought this guitar after someone or someone’s spouse got very mad at it and put some holes in the top. They left the rest of the guitar untouched, but did scratch out the label with a sharpie (still legible, see photo).

I bought this with the intention to change the top, but my luthier had the idea to just reglue the braces and reinforce the bridge. He did this and also installed an under bridge pickup. I was AMAZED at how great it turned out. It’s completely solid and good to go as-is. This guitar needs no work and is not being sold as a guitar needing repairs. It’s cool, unusual and one of a kind. You’ll definitely get attention at an open mic. Great recording guitar too.

Nice!

The other day, I bid on a guitar that was in a Julien's auction. It was a Fender Telecaster with a custom paint job of John 5. I told my wife I was going to do it, but that I was pretty sure I'd be outbid. I put my bid in before the guitar went live, and sure enough, by the time the auctioneer finished saying what the item was (not the whole description, just the guitar and finish part), I'd been outbid three times. I told my wife I didn't really think it was worth $1000 to me (it would have been at least that much w/the next bid and buyer's fee), and she said, "Really?", probably because she knows I'm a big John 5 fan. But I've never really found a Tele that I liked more than enough to have a passing interest in. I tried the first John 5 signature model, with three humbuckers, and I really couldn't stand it - the middle pickup was constantly in my way, and it felt like it weighed about 40 pounds. I've tried a few here and there and have never found one to buy. And it kind of kills me because I do love the sound of a good Tele.

That guitar ended up going for about $1200, I think, so over $1500 after fees.

That's money I could end up putting towards a resonator - that's an itch that I still haven't scratched.

Check out this acoustic guitar! Justin Johnson demo’s it. It’s a HyVibe from France.

Another review of the LAG Hyvibe acoustic guitar, this time by Darrel Braun. I just couldn't resist and bought the spruce version with case and it has begun to ship from France. It looks like a lot of fun with a built in looper and effects/ metronome.

My new LAG HyVibe guitar came fast! I was out at the movies and my wife says DHL left it by the side door. My daughter says she was in the kitchen when she noticed a box outside that said GUITAR out in the flurrying snow. :D

Man that is fast shipping from France. I only ordered it 3 days ago.

So I have it inside acclimating to the warm air in the house.

I recently discovered Koll guitars. In addition to the archtop I mentioned a couple of weeks ago (easily the most beautiful guitar I've ever seen, never mind owned), I just picked up a gorgeous British Racing Green Koll Troubadour. Now I'm on the lookout for a Duo Glide or Super Glide Almighty. If you haven't seen a Koll before, check them out. They are handmade by Saul Koll in Oregon and they are works of art.

Thanks Simon. The one on the left is the Koll artchtop and the one on the right is my Gibson ES-355. I bought that one from a guy in Paris. Isn't the internet wonderful? I would post a pic of the Troubadour but I really struggle with photos. I can never figure out how to post them without them being enormous.

I just looked at the Koll website and saw what the Troubadour model is like - it's got a great 60's surf guitar vibe.

Bill, how did your Reverb experience go? How did you handle shipping? I want to move 2 of my guitars to offset the purchase of the LAG HyVibe and Reverb might be my best option.

I thought Super Glide Almighty was a personal lubrication product. Guess I'm not as up on this stuff as I once was!

BTW, not necessarily just guitar-related, but if you haven't seen the video Jason Becker posted of EVH visiting him in 1996, it's fabulous. It shows the side of Eddie we didn't always get to see, especially in the later years - towards the end of the Hagar era. It's a side we knew was there from a lot of his early interviews, but it got lost in the shuffle a bit, especially when the emphasis shifted to the more sensational tabloid aspects of VH.

I'll warn you - it's a little tough to watch. The emotions are very raw.

It went pretty smoothly. I sold 6 out of 8 instruments in 2 weeks. Reverb took a bigger cut than I expected, but probably because I paid to boost the listings. I really just wanted to make enough to buy a couple Kolls. I met some pretty cool buyers too, which I really liked.

At our age I don't think lube is an issue.

Prayers for Tyler Larson of Youtube fame (Music Is Win) and a member of the PRS family (he attended the PRS EXPERIENCE in 2018). He has COVID pneumonia and is in the ICU in Nashville. Just shows that even young healthy fellas can suffer from the virus.

Are you signed up for the PRS release event next Thursday? I'm anxious to see what they have, but I have very little GAS right now.
