Alone--Heart

From the Dubious Claims to Fame Dept.:

I actually appeared in the music video for this song. A friend and I had gone to the Husker Du concert at the Variety Arts Center in downtown L.A., and were walking to a nightclub nearby, when a man stopped us on the sidewalk and asked us "How would you like to be in a Heart video?" We were thinking "Yeah, right, sure buddy", and started to walk away. He said "No, really, Heart is filming their new music video inside here, and we just need people to sit in the audience and act like they are at a live concert". We figured we had nothing to lose, so we went in the hotel, and sure enough there was a video shoot set up in a small theater with a long runway, like for a fashion show. They used different angles and lenses to make the room appear to be a large auditorium, instead of only about forty audience members (and, um, soft-focus to disguise Ann's couple of extra pounds at the time). We sat through the song in full about 10-12 times, while the band lyp-synched and posed differently for each take. After a while, our enthusiasm waned terribly, but we still cheered like crazy when the camera was pointed our way! In the finished video that aired on MTV, we can be seen for a few fleeting seconds in some of the audience shots. I keep hoping there will be a DVD released eventually of Heart's music videos, as I have long since lost the videotape I recorded off of MTV, and the ones out on YouTube are not very good resolution.

The one thing I remember most about the whole encounter, is the fact that the guys in the band all had better (and longer) hair than Ann and Nancy Wilson! Well, it was the mid-80's!
