Just wanted to give you Sandy fans a heads up, BBC Radio 2 ran a really good one-hour full career bio yesterday, you can play it from the website, but you better do it quick before it disappears:

Rokin,

Thanks for this post.I listened to the documentary when it was aired in the UK on tueday night and would recommend this to anyone who is either a fan of Sandy or Fairport Convention. It was informative and well written and presented by Bob Harris who some members might be familiar with via "The Old Grey Whistle Test".

Its sad to note that the programme marked thirty years of Sandy's death which was last monday. As the commentary at the end of the show suggested it is about time Sandy received the attention she deserves following the rise in Nick Drake's popularity in the last few years, one of her contemporaries in the Brit Folk
boom of the early 70s.

I don't have any individual Sandy albums, but have "No More Sad Refrains:The Anthology",a double cd which does take in a generous sampling of her solo work, although it does skimp on some key Fairport tracks. My favourite Fairport album is "What We Did On Our Holidays",which I reckon is their finest moment.

Did anyone else catch the R2 programme ?

For you Led Zeppers out there (myself included), I should mention that Robert Plant is interviewed at length about his duet with Sandy on "The Battle of Evermore" from IV/Zoso. And oodles of other interviewees, including Richard Thompson.

I heartily recommend everyone go out and buy all of Sandy's albums, there are great nuggets on each one that have not managed to find themselves on one of her compilations yet. Not just her 4 studio albums, but her early stuff, her last concert, the attic tracks, and Fotheringay. Great googly moogly, it's all good...

Next Time Around, Fotheringay and Banks Of The Nile are all gorgeous. Simply beautiful tunes.

I own 'The North Star Grassman And The Ravens' and 'No More Sad Refrains: The Anthology' but I see they've released a new compilation for the anniversary. I'm intrigued over the tracklisting and wondering if it's worth investing?? Obviously we all have 'Battle Of Evermore' but nice to have it featured on a Sandy best of and some of the other tracks look quite interesting to me. Hmmmmmmm, I may invest, not sure tho. Any takers???
