Damm, one of the best of all-time. He has provided so many musical memories all through my life. I have a very nice documentary on Jack filmed by Tony Palmer.

I will be revisiting this this weekend in tribute as well as his great box set which is killer. Very highly recommend!

God bless you Jack. You and the members of Cream were the prototype for hard rock music. The foundation for the music I love.

Very sad news. RIP, indeed.

Here's an obit from the Associated Press:
Quote:
LONDON — British usician Jack Bruce, best known as the bassist from the 1960s group Cream, has died. He was 71.

Publicist Claire Singers said Saturday Bruce died at his home in Suffolk, England.

A statement released by his family said “the world of music will be a poorer place without him but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts.”

“It is with great sadness that we, Jack’s family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father, granddad, and all round legend,” the statement said.

Cream, which also included guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker sold 35 million albums in just over two years and were awarded the world’s first ever platinum disc for their album “Wheels of Fire.”

Bruce wrote and sang most of the songs, including “I Feel Free”, “White Room,” ‘’Politician” and “Sunshine Of Your Love.”

Cream split in November 1968, and Bruce went on to front his own bands.

Many artists covered Bruce’s songs, including Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie and Ella Fitzgerald.

Bruce returned to the studio around 2000 to record his solo album “Shadows in the Air,” which hit number five on the British jazz and blues chart.

Bruce was born to musical parents in Glasgow, Scotland on 14 May 1943. His parents travelled extensively in Canada and the U.S., and the young Bruce attended 14 different schools. He finished his formal education at Bellahouston Academy and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music, to which he won a scholarship for cello and composition.

He left Scotland at the age of 16 and in 1962 joined his first important band, the influential Alexis Korner’s Blues Inc., in London. The band featured drummer Charlie Watts, later to join the Rolling Stones.

Very very sad - I remember he had a problem with his ticker. Great bass player - his vocals were great too! Too bad that Cream never really got back together in the studio. His playing on Apostrophe is also one of the best things in FZ's catalog.

Glad I did get to see the Cream reunion in NYC a couple of years ago with Jimbo. One of my concert highlights for sure. It was a very anticipated concert and they did not disappoint us.

Always loved his voice,

Terrible news. I saw the very last show that Cream played at MSG in 2005, their last show ever. Jack's solo career while largely ignored had many excellent albums of many different styles. Thanks for all of the great music Jack.

Sad news indeed. I'm glad that Cream got the chance to reunite while they were all still around.

Very sad news
I discovered Cream as a kid and this influenced my choices in music (for the better)
Jack was not only a great bass player but an incredible singer.
RIP mate

A multi-talented guy of whom there aren't many equals.

Hope he's OK wherever he is now.

I have his album known as BLT from 1981 that I've always enjoyed. Can't beat the combo of Robin Trower and Jack Bruce.

Very sad to hear this; only got to see him once, at the Jeff Healey tribute show. But let me tell you, when Jack Bruce does a 4 song best of set, it hits you right in the gut how much this man meant to the history of rock and roll.

thanks for everything, Jack. RIP.

Devastating news.
He was one of my all-time favorites. He continued to make new music throughout his life, and was never afraid to experiment and stretch out.
Great talent that I will sorely miss.

Rest In Peace

I don't have the words for this one. The most talented member of Cream, he will be missed.

The Cream show that John and I saw at the Garden was something special, never thought I'd get to see that. A giant of rock music.

Eric Clapton became the mega super-duper star after Cream. Jack Bruce certainly deserved to be at that level as well.
