My favorite sports are football, baseball and soccer, but I also love hockey and the NHL playoffs simply blow away any other sport in intensity, even the World Cup or the NFL playoffs. It's just exhausting watching these guys skate so hard every single shift.
Tonight's victory by our beloved Flyers over Washington in double OT was heart-wrenching! I'm also pulling for Nashville to upset Detroit, but it won't be easy.
Hopefully the Flyers bury the Caps on Saturday, but that's easier said than done.
Anyway, the NHL playoffs are AWESOME!!!

Long time Flyers nut here - since the early 1970s. Stanley Cup dry spell way too damn long. They're playing great so far. But in playoff time only one team wins 16 games. Go Flyers!

It's worth mentioning here, if nowhere else, that in China earlier this month, the United States defeated Canada twice to earn the gold medal in the IIHF Women's World Championships of ice hockey. http://www.iihf.com/index.php?id=111 It's only the second time they've managed to defeat Canada since 1990.

It's a shame these women don't have the support of any sort of press agent or marketing team to promote the team, the sport, and these tournaments, so I've taken it upon myself to mention it whenever and wherever I can. I also like to give out this link to a fan site for Erika Lawler, Wisconsin Badger, US National team member, and at five feet tall, the greatest hockey player ever: http://www.beyondthedashers.com/Lawler.html

How about those Flyers? Frickin' unbelievably exciting as hell-another overtime win, in game 7 no less! Montreal will be very tough though, but for tonight we enjoyed ourselves immensely!

I love NHL hockey! My Islanders didn't make the cut, but I'll watch ANY game (especially a game 7). Right now my favorite team is anyone who plays against the Rangers.

Yes, great win by the Flyers tonight!

:agree:

I still hate the Flyers, even if Bobby Clarke is long gone as GM.

Les Habs can kiss my ass. Actually, I've been to Montreal and it was great, but the hell with the Canadiens this round! Personally, I don't see the Flyers winning, but hopefully it will be competitive.
Cranky-are you an actual Montreal fan?
AMW-why the hatred for Philly? Bobby Clarke isn't long gone by the way-he's still an executive and was the GM at the beginning of last season. I am glad he's not GM anymore-he gave up on young talent too quickly and made many bad trades, and pitiful, expensive free agent signings (Chris Gratton anyone?). He also made some good ones-like stealing LeClair and Recchi from those lovely Canadiens.

By the way... 4-3 OT win for Montreal.

Bwah ha ha ha ha!!!

Seriously, I wasn't completely impressed with the play of the Habs tonight, but I'm convinced they can take Philly in the series. Let's say five games.

Well, with the help of the officials, I'd say that's possible. Disgusting call on the high stick goal that clearly should never have counted, and then a solid check gets called with a minute left as a penalty. Disgusting. Not a good, or an earned victory at all. I'll send my congrats to the Canadiens if they actually win a game rather than have one given to them by the NHL.
As for Montreal, I was there with my wife in 2002 and we loved it and even took in an Alouettes game when we were there and an Expos game at that dump Olympic Stadium!

Philly is outplaying them tonight (Biron is outplaying Price), but the "high stick" goal in the first game was legal and "solid" check with a leading knee is a no-no.

The high stick was a joke and that was not a legal goal-he banged his damn stick on the crossbar with his follow-through. The penalty was questionable at best, but yes, you were right that the Flyers outplayed Montreal again (as they did in Game 1) and deserved the win. Nice cheap shot by Kostopoulos on Timonen tonight-punching a guy in the face when he's not looking is quite "manly". What a scumbag. Hope a suspension is in order.
Love the playoffs!

Not sure that the replay showed his stick hitting the crossbar, but... ANYWAY! Yes, Philly deserved to win game 2. Montreal played well out the gate, but that first Philly goal hurt and then they kept coming. For the most part, good back and forth hockey.

I agree about the shot to Timmonen, but doesn't warrant a suspension IM(biased)O. Teach him to gloat (look back and laugh) after scoring a goal I suppose. That said, that's not what I like to see in hockey.

The probem with Montreal is that they too easily stop playing their style of hockey and fall into the traps of other teams. They've done this all year. That said, props to Philly. We'll see how game three goes...

Yeah, there won't be a suspension, but it was a cheap shot and a bad one-no doubt out of frustration. I will say Montreal seems to have a ton of speed and come in waves when they pressure the defense and that can be awful to watch as a Flyers fan.
It seems the Flyers have picked going high on Price for goals-2 identical goals Saturday night on high, top shelf shots. He'll need to work on that.
Game 3 should be intense as any playoff game should be. The Flyers sometimes suck ass at home in the postseason in big games, so we'll see.
I was happy to see the Rangers lose today though!

Game summary: Montreal played like sh*t. Hatcher tarnished a great win for the Flyers.

Let Price be the scapegoat, but where the hell was Kovalev?!? The Kostitsyn bros??

Weak, weak, weak effort.

Hatcher is a moron and an old man-he spends a lot of time in the penalty box. Without him this win is a shutout. Price was bad but the Flyers just jumped all over the Canadiens. Awesome win. Game 4 will be no easier though-I think Montreal will go with Hlavac or whatever his name is in goal, but I think that's jumping ship on Price too soon. Biron was fantastic once again in net for the Flyers!

My San Jose Sharks had better get with it. Otherwise, they are going to be like what happens when the little kid in his Mother's house walks up to the fish tank and asks his Mom why one of the fish is swimming upside-down.

Rangers Forward Sean Avery Hospitalized

NEW YORK (AP) -- New York Rangers forward Sean Avery has been hospitalized after lacerating his spleen during a playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In a statement Wednesday, the team said the noted agitator was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center after New York's 5-3 loss Tuesday night and was admitted following a CT scan.

Avery, who had an assist on the Rangers' second goal Tuesday, will be sidelined for the remainder of the season, the Rangers said in a statement, but is expected to make a full recovery.

The New York Daily News reported on its Web site Wednesday that Avery was unconscious and not breathing when he was taken to St. Vincent's. The 28-year-old arrived about 3 a.m. Wednesday, a person at the hospital told the newspaper.

I don't respect his agitator role or methods, but I hope he's okay.
