A recent purchase;

Weather Report 8.30 Live.

A fantastic offering of the finest jazz-fusion.

One question.Did the concert start at 8 or 8.30 ? :ohno:

I used to have this on vinyl years ago, and loved it!

Did you buy the US release (one-CD), or Japanese release (two-disc, with the restored song "Scarlet Woman", that was originally omitted to fit on one compact disc)?

Geoff,

What an incredible honour to meet the guy. What you say about him seems to tie in with everyone else opinion of him that he was a genuinely nice person who left a huge impression on those who lived and worked with him.He was a fantasic and I think underated drummer, who modified his jazz drumming to meet the requirements of essentially a folk band turned rockers.

In retrospect what impressed me most that I was supposed to be interviewing him to talk about NRPS & all that star struck me wanted to talk about was the Airplane; he was more then gracious about it & as I mentioned agreed/offered to spend more time together after the show. I also agree that he was a killer player - just listen to their masterpiece After Bathing At Baxters for some really innovative drumming.

No Phone..
I'm a relative newcomer to Weather Report and at the time of buying this only owned "Black Market",so wasn't aware of their back-cat too well.I bought it to get that extremely catchy tune "Birdland".You're right there are two versions of the album available.A quick look on Amazon seems to suggest that the Japanese edition and one other listed as "import",have cut the track "Scarlet Woman" from the set for some unknown reason.Perhaps it's licensing issues in those territories which prevents the track being included or maybe they don't like the name of that track.
I was lucky to buy the standard European edition which is dated as coming out in 1994 on the back, and which contains 13 tracks including "Scarlet Woman".
Apparantly not all of the tracks were recorded live; 8.30,Brown Street,The Orphan and Sightseing according to Wikipedia were studio versions.

I am not a fan of live CDs. However, I love Joe Jackson's Summer In The City and Two Rainy Nights (which I think is now called simply "Live" on Koch Records). The former is an excellent trio album, and the latter is a very latin-centric concert on the whole. Songs from throughout his catalog are given the "Another World"/"Cha Cha Loco" treatment.

I also love Billy Joel's Songs In The Attic.

I'm a pretty big Joe Jackson fan but I never got Two Rainy Nights as I already had Summer In The City and his earlier live set. Your description intrigues me, though, so I guess I'll have to add it to my list. I love it when he does the latin thing.

Some of you guys have listed more live albums than I've even heard, but for what it's worth some of my favorites are...

Elton John -- 11-17-70
Sting -- Bring on the Night
Joe Jackson -- Summer In The City
The Who -- Live at Leeds (original vinyl version)
Todd Rundgren -- King Biscuit Flower Hour

Then grab this disc! Give it a listen online, somewhere. Especially the latin percussion only version of "Got The Time"...faster than the original, even!
