I believe that clip is from the end of King Kong.

They were probably showing it on projector judging from the crowd reaction.

Agreed, it is an excellent album. I was lucky enough to meet Kantner, Balin and Cassidy.

Joebase,Thanks you have solved one of the mysteries of the universe for me, it all makes sense now.I'm still with the crowd rooting for Kong to win,but of course he never could.Reminds you that were all apes under this thin veneer or whatever.
You say you met Kantner,Balin and Cassidy ? I'm curious.

I met Spencer Dryden around 1977 when i was a college dj & was doing a feature on NRPS. Really nice person. I spent some time with him before the show & was supposed to hang out again afterwards Unfortunately Stephen Love their bass player at the time was hitting on my 16 year old date (I was 18) & she was really angry about it & demanded that I take her home....

Geoff,

What an incredible honour to meet the guy. What you say about him seems to tie in with everyone else opinion of him that he was a genuinely nice person who left a huge impression on those who lived and worked with him.He was a fantasic and I think underated drummer, who modified his jazz drumming to meet the requirements of essentially a folk band turned rockers. The result I think was something quite spectacular and beautiful ,you can hear his signature style all over the bands records.I'm thinking that tom tom beat at the beginning of "She Has Funny Cars"on Surrealistic, elsewhere he raised his game to the harder rocking stuff but always rhythmic elegant and driving. Not many could drum like that.

What's really sad is Spencer's illness and living in reduced circumstances later in life.I remember when he died back in 2005 and reading the appalling tragedies and misfortunes that blighted his later life that really shocked me.He died aged 66,impoverished and living in a borrowed or rented cabin on a friends property.Earlier a hip replacement had left him permanantly disabled, but apparantly this didn't diminish him and he continued to walk defiantly with the aid of a cane.Good on you Spence!

Then I think he suffred a heart attack, and while a benefit concert helped raise funds for corrective surgery, meantime a house fire destroyed all his worldly possessions.Perhaps this is how he came to be living in such sad circumstances.Three weeks before the op. Spencer was diagnosed with colon cancer and died shortly afterwards.

As I said you were honoured to meet him,and while the above is shockingly sad to happen to one of our heroes,it doesn't detract fom the man's obvious talent and the recorded gifts he left to us all.

There's one that you guys are missing that I feel is a really fantastic live album. It can also be bought for cheap (if it's still in print). So, if anybody has already mentioned this and my eyes didn't spot it, please forgive me, but you should really check out Bill Withers-Live at Carnegie Hall. This is a magnificent show. He really drew people in on an emotional level the night this was recorded.

Ah-ha! That's one I was missing from my earlier list:

Live at Carnegie Hall--Bill Withers

And Steve Talia is right: it's wonderful.
