If he's a person of faith, I would recommend "No Footprints" by Bruce Cockburn. When my dad died I listed to a lot of Bruce Cockburn. In fact, that summer I constantly listened to Cockburn's Strange Waters, which is about the crazy directions life takes you--and has a wonderful blistering guitar solo. I always felt like he would approve of musicianship like that

I apologize for this digression, but this thread has me thinking about my father, who was born in the 30's and listened to Neil Diamond, Kris Kristofferson, and John Prine when I was growing up. When I was in college I introduced him to Dark Side of the Moon, and I still smile every time I think about him telling me, "That Pink Floyd...he's a genious."
