Have you heard this one?

It's mastered by Steve Hoffman and sounds way better than any other Mamas & Papas CD I've heard.

If and when you find it (it used to be available on Canadian sites like http://www.hmv.ca), be sure to compare it to any Mamas & The Papas CDs you currently have. You'll be blown away, Googa.

What few Hoffman's I have I have been, Charles. This one's going to the top of my list.

I tend to come across used copies of that one at Newbury Comics...and usually very cheap.

Chris, am I imagining it, or did you use to have a different number after CBK?

I thought so. But what do the numbers mean?

I changed it earlier this week. The catalog number for KISS's first album is NB9001.

Yes, it is my third name change, but only in a year-and-a-half.

And so the previous ones were also catalog numbers?

Chip,

Thanks for the tip about the Steve Hoffman mastered Mamas and Papas 16 Greatest.I've done a check myself and it is still widely available on the usual sites and comes cheap too.

I have to confess this is one of the groups I have a strange buying compulsion for when it comes to acquiring multiple album reissues and compilation cds.It might not sound that many to some of the members on here, but I think I've got 4 hits compiliations of the group already,so your Steve Hofman recommendation may be tempting me to add a fifth. Also as I said above I've also got the 5 studio albums put out by MCA in 1990.Their debut,"If You Can Believe Your Eyes And Ears" is a masterpiece,so I also have this on the old edition with the toilet bowl covered as was ordered by the record company execs. as not to offend public decency, and the late 90's reissue which reinstates the bowl to the cover art.Actually I prefer it with the bowl. :D Who wouldn't ?

Believe me this multiple buying of old/new reissues and various hits packages of the same artist can be akin to something of a sickness. But they look good, like a colourful sandwich stacked on the shelf.

This place is a support group for that kind of activity. We actively support each other in doing that! :ohyes: :ohno:

I added a BIG cover image and the Amazon listing page link to your post, Chip. (Amazon's third party dealers have plenty of cheap copies in stock, starting from $1.25.)

Cool! $1.25 is a lot less than I paid for my copy.

It's mastered by Steve Hoffman and sounds way better than any other Mamas & Papas CD I've heard.

I tried buying this, but after registering the audio equipment upon which I intended to play the CD, I got a polite e-mail explaining that my 60 hz treble reduction levels were not sufficient to properly reproduce the "breath of life" that Mr. Hoffman so graciously endowed upon this CD, and that my money was being duly refunded so that I might use it to upgrade my system.

???

An e-mail from whom? Why would that stop you from buying it?

I had a JAPANESE MCA PLAIDBACK with the bowl, but unfortunately also a printing error spot on Michelle Philips' face, so I gave it to my brother. I do miss that toilet bowl, though, what a cop-out covering it with the "California Dreamin'" box.

Common remark made by the almighty Gorts when you dare to say that a SH mastered album isn't the best version in the world.

I was playing the new vinyl Who compilation today. Brand new vinyl, relatively new stylus, Thorens turntable. Guess what? I couldn't get over the annoying (to me) surface noise. I then cleaned the brand new album in my VPI vacuum record cleaner and it still sounded no better.

I try to occasionally play a record or two for old times sake. I do like the experience of playing a record, looking at the large cover, etc - I just have to go back to CDs because of my HATRED of surface noise.

Downloads are not even in my equation.

I agree with this post - I love and miss the tradition and ceremony of playing records ... but man CDs rock.

Last year I debating going digital and scrapped the idea. I love the packaging. And stuff like the recent Radiohead and Pink Floyd box sets with old style cardboard packaging is awesome and SHOULD be the future!
