Sorry I'm late-I'm exhausted from work this week. Perhaps this is tantamount to treason-but try, really try, if you're a Stones fan to think of the ultimate 5 songs that do it for you. This is in honor of the forthcoming "Shine A Light", as well as the fact that these guys ARE the world's greatest rock and roll band damnit!
My five (and believe me, this was really tough):
1.Street Fighting Man
2.Start Me Up
3.Can't You Hear Me Knocking
4.Almost Hear You Sigh
5.Rocks Off
My next ten:
1.Get Off Of My Cloud
2.Wild Horses
3.Waiting On A Friend
4.Tumbling Dice
5.Happy
6.Hand Of Fate
7.Gimme Shelter
8.Monkey Man
9.Respectable
10.She's So Cold

Oh man, this is hard. I had to go with stream of conciousness and pick the first five that came to mind.
1. Rocks Off (that's the easiest) 2. Sway 3. Sympathy for the Devil 4. Satisfaction 5. Rip This Joint

Off the top of my head...and these are my FIRST five, as with Federico, I'm going for more of a stream-of-consciousness thing here:
1. 2000 Light Years From Home 2. Shine A Light 3. She Was Hot 4. Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker) 5. Satisfaction

Waaaaaaaaaaaay too difficult, but I'm going to try without doing any "research":
Brown Sugar
Memory Motel
She's A Rainbow
Tumbling Dice
Honky Tonk Women
Now, I'm sure I'll disagree with some of this tomorrow!

Yeah, this'll be easy.... Honky Tonk Women (I cannot sit still when I hear that cowbell) Satisfaction (the definition of rock & roll) Rocks Off ('the sunshine bores the daylights out of me...") Time Waits for No One Gimme Shelter Can I cheat and list 100 more...?

I am like Jimbo. Can I list at least 100 more to the 5 I'd have to choose? Instead of some of the obvious great ones, I'll list the ones I dearly love that don't get much mention. 1) "Child of the Moon" 2) "'Til The Next Goodbye" 3) "Winter" 4) "I'm Free" 5) "I Can't Be Satisfied" I'll add a 6th to the list because I wish Keith would perform this one in a small setting somewhere, but I'd love to hear him do "Comin' Down Again".

The drum intro to "Honky Tonk Women" is very sexy. That probably sounds weird, but it's the only way I can describe it.

For a band like the Rolling Stones that's been around for over 40 years, it doesn't feel right to restrict our picks to just five. In fact, since most of us (all of us?) are staunch music fans here, I might propose a Sunday ten best picks... it shouldn't be that difficult to come up with a few more. With the Stones, it was impossible to restrict it to just five... (so I went 15). You Can't Always Get What You Want Brown Sugar Wild Horses Can You Hear Me Knocking Time Waits For No One Ruby Tuesday Jumpin' Jack Flash Midnight Rambler (live) Street Fighting Man Start Me Up She's A Rainbow Winter Sweet Virginia All Down The Line Almost Hear You Sigh Favorite album: Exile On Main Street

OK, I'll tell ya what-list your TOP 5, then break it down into the NEXT 10. That way, I can still do a collective from the Top 5 from each list and find out everyone's top picks. I hate to veer from the Top 5 only, but I'm gonna cheat now too!

I was not a big Stones fan in my younger days, a situation which I think had a lot more to do with their bad boy image than the actual music. As a huge Beatles fan I took offense to the whole "world's greatest rock and roll band" thing and it didn't help matters that our local AOR station played "Sympathy For the Devil" every 20 minutes ... or so it seemed. Over the years, though, I've slowly come around. I'll always be more of a Beatles guy than a Stones guy, but now I can enjoy them both. I won't pretend to have heard every note they've ever recorded ... yet, anyway ... but for now these are my favorites: 1. Satisfaction 2. You Can't Always Get What You Want 3. Paint It Black 4. 2000 Light Years from Home 5. Emotional Rescue

For those of you listing "Moonlight Mile", I have to say that's a wonderful choice. Taylor produces some incredible harmonics on that song.
