With Shine A Light about to be released - it poses the question. What is your favorite soundtrack recording. Should soundtracks that are esentailly filmed concerts be included?

Concert type ST
1. Baby Snakes
2. Concert for Bangladesh
3. Get Yer Ya Ya's Out
4. The Last Waltz
5. . Woodstock

(Roxy & Elsewhere if it ever does come out...Gail what are the chances for '08???)

Straight or almost straight ST
1. 200 Motels
2. Popeye (love the music and the witty lyrics)
3. King Creole (IMHO the King's only great ST)
4. Fantasia (Walt Disney would make great music video's if he were here today)
5. A Hard Day's Night

I was tempted to add West Side Story...always loved the Jet's theme song

Even though none of the music was actually written specifically for the film..."American Graffiti" (by far.)

Soundtrack or score? It gets muddled, especially when you factor in those "Music Inspired By..." collections. Some I've liked over the years include:

1. "South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut"--Never has singing profanity been so infecticious. "They may cut your d**k in half/And serve it to a pig/And though it hurts you'll laugh/And dance a d**kless jig".

2. "This Is Spinal Tap"--Also wins for best soundtrack packaging.

3. "Get Crazy"--Still unavailable on CD

4. "The Big Lebowski"--Possibly the most eclectic soundtrack collection produced since the original "National Lampoon's Vacation" managed to include both the Fleetwoods and the Ramones on the same LP.

5. "The Hudsucker Proxy"--Another Coen Brothers soundtrack, but a much different one, featuring Carter Burwell's score.

6. "Woodstock"--The original (now OOP on CD) 2-LP version. "Woodstock Two" and the boxed set are pretty good, but the original is a classic.

7. and 8. "Kill Bill Vol. 1" and "Kill Bill Vol. 2"--Consisting, I believe, of music taken largely from other soundtracks.

9. "Revenge Of The Sith"--Just when I thought I was sick and tired, not just of Star Wars music, but everything John Williams had ever done, this disc blew me away.

10. "Singles"--I hated the movie, but the soundtrack has managed to date itself in a good way.
