My life in the '70s would not have been complete if I hadn't been exposed to "Do It Again", "Reelin' In The Years", "Rikki Don't Lose That Number", "Josie" and "Peg". The first four that I mentioned are soundtracks which reverberate within my heart of a time which I will never get back. I get a feeling of really missing a special time of being in Santa Clara whenever I hear "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" and of the Summer that I consider to be my last great favorite one as a kid. Like I've said before, "Reelin' In The Years" was one of the major songs going on in my head during my last year in Little League baseball back in '73 when my team won the Westside Championship.
"Do It Again", to my ears, is arguably the coolest debut song in Rock history. It just sweats with cool and musical sophistication with a strong accent on tasteful.

When I first heard "Do It Again," I thought it was Santana. Years later, I learned differently.

Another Dan fan here. They did a great episode of the NPR show Piano Jazz a few years ago, which you can get on CD. It's interesting to hear them in a more off-the-cuff setting than their studio albums. Nice interview too.

"You walked in
And my life began again
Just when I'd spent the last piaster
I could borrow"

followed closely by:

"No he can't sleep on the floor
What do you think I'm yelling for
I'll drop him near the freeway
Doesn't he have a home"

"Ain't gonna do it without the fez on".
Are they talking about not having sex unless there's a fez on his head? It was the 70's....

With Steely Dan lyrics, you can usually assume the worst.

I agree with Geff about Elliot Randall's guitar on Reeling In The Years -- one of the most incredible guitar solos ever.

No song takes me back to my college days faster or better than "Deacon Blues."

I remember when I first got Aja and was shocked that Decon Blues was seven minutes long. It was such a great song that it felt as if no more than three or four minutes passed when I heard it.

Aja is my fave today, yesterday it might have been the fast food salesman in the park.

Drink Scotch Whisky all night long
And die behind the wheel.
They got a name for the winners in the world
I want a name when when I lose.

There's an early Steely Dan song titled, Yellow Peril, that I feel might have been a prequel to Aja. There's even a mention of Josie in the song.

Wow-it actually makes sense! And, I guess technically I was right about not having sex without a "fez" on his head!
Another one:
"Everyone's Gone To The Movies"-is that about a town pervert? What is that line about "Sorry, we only have 8" all about?
