I am considering changing my BMG membership from a paper membership to an online one. I already do most of my orders on their web site anyway, and per a recent thread on this board apparently the online members sometimes get better offers. One concern, however: As a long-time member, I have not have to deal with the whole "featured selection" nonsense for several years now. Is that going to change if I switch to an online account?

p.s. ... Sorry for the all-caps in the heading. If someone can fix that I would be most appreciative.

If you switch to an online account, you'll get a monthly email regarding a featured selection and you'll have to click on the link provided to accept it or decline it. If you do decline, you'll get a confirmation email usually within a few minutes but sometimes as long as a day.

My last BMG paper mailing mentioned that from now on I will be receiving BMG mail every six weeks (instead of every 3 weeks) and I will have an opportunity to respond to two months worth of "featured selections" at a time.

I've thought of switching to online only, but I do like to casually browse through the physical booklets in a comfy chair.

I don't know if they still offer this, but a long time ago BMG allowed anyone who had fulfilled their original agreement to opt out of having to return a card or an email. It's worth asking if this is still available.

Unfortunately, Columbia House does not offer that option for their LAME dvd club.

Geff, don't get me started on Columbia House. Last year I called them with every intention of resigning. They did offer me a membership where I wouldn't have to reply to featured selections, but with a big catch: If I did not buy something within a five month period, they'd stick me back on a regular membership. I thought "what the heck" and was sure I would find something I wanted during that time. You can guess the rest. Now I'm back to returning those damn cards ... when I remember to.

As for BMG, I do have one of those memberships where I don't have to return a card or e-mail, and I love it. I'm just afraid that if I change to a paperless membership it might change that too. I think I'm just going to keep things status quo for now.

Hey, I just wanted a little information on BMG. I didn't expect a Spanish Inquisition!

I currently have a paperless membership that requires no action on my part. I completely ignore it for months on end.

But this month, I got the Faces box set for $8, and got 5 of the 7 Bowie albums I didn't have CDs the for, for about $20, including shipping.

I have no idea if that's the default plan these days, so be sure to read the fine print of anything they offer.

Ironic timing: Last night i had a phone call from Columbia House. I actually don't know the exact purpose; I assumed it was "why aren't you buying anything?". Early in the call I mentioned that I was also a member of the BMG Club & I buy a lot from them. I then stated that the reason I haven't been buying from CBS is that the deals are awful, & that in fact Best Buy is often cheaper. The Woman acknowledged that the same folks owned BMG Club, but beyond that, she didn't seem real pleased with my lack of enthusiasm for CBS Club....

If they do restart the selction of the month, its simply a matter of going to their CS section and clicking on a link to cancel it...

I've been noticing that BMG hasn't been adding many titles. Just figured out part of the problem; not only did they get dropped by Sony (which many of us were aware of), but they also got dropped by the other half of Sony - themselves! The only RCA (BMG) title I could find in a quick search was 1 Presley cd that was full price only.

It appears that oddly BMG Club is now only selling Warner, Universal, EMI & indies.

I noticed the same thing about the sudden lack of BMG product from their own music club. I was on their web site a few weeks ago and was thinking of adding a couple of Presley titles to my order. I was kind of shocked that they were no longer there.
