How true. How very true.

Someone commented that if John Lennon's Menlove Avenue had been issued as a bootleg, it would have been hailed as a great album, but because it was released commercially expectations were higher, and the critics were harsher.

There's also an allure factor upon an artist's death. Lennon's "Double Fantasy" would not have gone #1 if he had not been killed.

Like many have said, MTV and the like killed themselves years ago.
I would like higher quality videos that what YouTube offers, though.
I like when an artist I enjoy offers up a DVD collection.

I also find You Tube worthless except for 1 shot comedy due to the low quality.

The problem with YouTube is you have to know the video before you see it. You don't get a sampling of something new.

I love YubTub as a source for sampling new songs or new bands, but like Pip says you have to rely on yourself to find it. Personally, I like this cuz I'm not being spoon-fed crap. There's a plenty of good stuff out there if you can find it. Also, going on "archeological digs" and mining up stuff I used to love is a blast.

I too wish the resolution quality was better.

That was my point. The .flv standard was set up for folks with low bandwith connections, & makes mp3 (audio) seem hi-res by comparison. Hopefully the whole You Tube phenomenon will soon go to avi/divx which is also low bandwidth but much better quality.

I agree on all points. I'll occasionally check out some videos on YouTube, but the crappy picture quality doesn't keep me there for long. I like good DVD collections of videos too, and there are still a lot of artists who don't have any out there. Kate Bush is the first who comes to mind, and of course I would love to see a Saint Etienne collection available in the states but I'm not holding my breath.

I haven't browsed it deep enough, so maybe this exists, but a 'random play' feature on the music channel at YouTube could be pretty spiffy, sort of a faux MTV. If it allowed you to filter out certain genres/artists, that'd be even better.

Although, if all you've heard is one song from a band that you like, then YouTube can be nice.
If you got to look for that song to play it, a lot of "related" clips come up. This allows you to
sample other material from the same bands. And while the quality may suck, it does give you
a free listen to help make smart buying choices.

I'd like to have some better quality videos of Madness (the QuickTime videos available as a bonus
on the Box Set are okay, but they were badly cut (clipping off the last couple of seconds of each
song and splicing it onto the start of the next movie. I could fix them, but I shouldn't have
to. Hmmmm, actually, come to think of it, I haven't look for Madness videos in years....

I am quite pleased with the Eurythmics DVD.

I have to admit I have a TON of music dvd's I haven't watched. I've got so many cd's & movies I also haven't played, that unless it's something really theatrical, music dvd's tend to take a back seat in my time schedule.

I remember when MTV fist started, it seemed so cool that my friends & I would often pick bars that had mtv to go to for the night.

For me now, Geff, it's really the power of Nostalgia. MTV was so big on my campus as I was going to
college, it was completely normal to be walking down the dorm hallway, hear someone's TV (we often
left our doors open) and moisy on it just to watch a video or two.

It just feels good to see one of these on DVD and get transported back in time 25+ years.
Still, like you, I have a few concert DVDs and so on which almost never get watched because of lack
of time, or, worse, lack of someone who wants to watch them with me.
