Another great Irish band of course, is U2. There are so many great Irish acts besides Lizzy and U2, such as Van Morrison, The Boomtown Rats, The Cranberries, Rory Gallagher, Gary Moore, The Frames, The Answer, etc. but let's just stick to these 2 for now!

My U2 picks:

1. I Will Follow
2. The Unforgettable Fire
3. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
4. Beautiful Day
5. One

I'm going to go ahead and try to list a few, but U2 is like a lot of the bands I love in regards to the fact that I love the majority of their material equally. This is why I didn't take part in the Kinks thread.
-"The Unforgettable Fire"
-"The Three Sunrises"
-"Until The End of the World"
-"One Tree Hill"
-"New Year's Day"

An Cat Dubh/ Into The Heart (maybe their finest moment)
A Day Without Me (forgotten gem)
I Fall Down
New Years Day
Pride (In The Name Of Love) ...this song always gives me chills.

too many to really mention but these 5 are rock solid. Really define what U2 is about. :)

Does it seem like the vote is splitting between 80s U2 and later U2? They're almost like two different bands.

I think with Joshua Tree they began to evolve into a different band. I liked the first edition better. My next 5 favorite U2 songs are all from the first 4 albums, too.

1. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
2. I Will Follow
3. Mysterious Ways
4. Pride (In The Name Of Love)
5. New Year's Day

I really feel they started to change with the Unforgettable Fire album.

The first 3 are similar Boy/ October/ War.

I think the first big change was Joshua Tree & the second was Zooropa. They completely lost me with Zooropa & everything since (with the MINOR exception of All That You Can't Leave Behind; which I found forgettable but at least not irritating).

I thought the big change was Achtung Baby. A lot less preachy, a lot less jangly, a lot more sexy. They seemed to both embrace the rock star thing and retain an ironic distance. I saw a great TV show from the Zoo TV tour and with all this amazing metacommentary on language and politics tying in with those flashing monitors everywhere. I'd never really been that interested in them before this. Finally they weren't telling me to feed the poor or help the oppressed. Zooropa seemed more like an aftershock of Achtung Baby, the stuff they came up with on the tour (some of which was pretty good). I've never been able to listen to Pop but I like the other of the albums since Achtung Baby.
