In honor of St. Patrick's Day, 'tis time to mention my favorite band of all-time (although it could also be Rush), Thin Lizzy. I may be the only one who participates in this one, so I've also listed a second choice for St. Patty's Day as well.
I truly worship Thin Lizzy and I am still angry at Phil Lynott for succumming to drug abuse and dying far too young. Hopefully the forthcoming movie about his life (with Gary Dourdain (sp?) from CSI playing Phil and Holly Hunter as Phil's mom Philomena) will be good.
I need to get to Dublin and see the statue of Phil they erected a few years ago. Of course, I also need to get my oil changed.
This is a hard one for me:
1.Cowboy Song
2.Thunder And Lightning
3.Waiting For An Alibi
4.Roisin Dubh (Black Rose) A Rock Legend
5.Still In Love With You

I hope someone else participates in this one, but if not, it will be easy to count the votes!
R.I.P.
Phil Lynott

Although I've heard a handful of the classic Thin Lizzy albums, I really only know:

1. Whisky in the jar

...and that's a traditional song, is it not?

Sorry...the only Thin Lizzy song I know is "The Boys are Back in Town," but it's always been a big favorite of mine from the '70s.

Criminally overlooked and underrated, Thin Lizzy had a sound all their own and a great lyricist in Phil to top it all off. While everybody talks about the great twin lead guitar attack, The rhythm section really does it for me. Phil was/is vastly underrated as a bass player. It is sad how he died. What bothers me now is some of the band members are billing themselves as Thin Lizzy and performing in venues around the world. Anyway here's a quick five:

Johnny The Fox
Bad Reputation (Might be my personal fave)
Opium Trail
Chinatown
Rosalie

Bannings: Banned??? Moi???
Dancing in the Moonlight (incredibly melodic bassline)
The Sun Goes Down
Jailbreak (currently featured in a Miller Lite TV ad)
The Boys Are Back in Town
King's Call (Lynott solo, so sue me)

IP, your recent posts about the Thin Lizzy DVD inspired me to do a lot of listening to my old Lizzy LP's in the last month. I had forgotten how solid the Johnny the Fox and Bad Reputation albums were!

Cowboy Song
Dancin' in the Moonlight
Don't Believe a Word
Whiskey in the Jar
Fool's Gold (an overlooked gem that was a minor album-rock-radio hit, with a classic opening riff and some of Phil's coolest lyrics!)

5 Thin Lizzy Tunes?? Man that is next to impossible but I will try:
Emerald
Cold Sweat
Still In Love With You
Jailbreak
Bad Reputation

I have to mention that 2 of my favorite tracks with Phil on vocals are Parisienne Walkways and Out In the Fields (Both by Gary Moore). Military Man is also great.

I've always loved "Jailbreak". But other than that song and their other big hit, I was never a big Thin Lizzy fan for some reason.

I'm in the same boat with JohnG & Momo. I was never much of a Lizzy fan. The only songs I really remember are Jailbreak & The Boys Are Back In Town.

Just saw a Miller Lite beer commercial, during the NCAA hoops tourney. Dalmations all over town are busting out to follow the Miller delivery truck, to the tune of Thin Lizzy's "Jailbreak"!

Yes, that commercial kicks ass, as does the song and Villanova stunning Clemson! At least one of the 3 Philly schools won!
