How very sad. Apparently found dead in his NY home with indications of a pill overdose. I was just saying how creepy he was as the Joker in the trailer for the new Batman movie. RIP.

It's all over the local NY TV stations. Looks like hundreds of people out in the street in front of the building where he was found.
Terribly sad. He had a long career in front of him.

He had a heroin problem which led to the breakup with his gorgeous wife Michelle Williams.
ABC-TV did report that the police also found sleeping pills near him on the bed.

The only person I feel sorry for is the daughter. The adults get what they deserve, based on their decisions in life and their actions in general, but the child just gets left without a father. Regardless of what happened, this guy was far from innocent.

I'd wait a little on the judgement...particularly the leap regarding heroin. But as the last post regarding this thread is the day of his death, I'd imagine that has been the case. While not conclusive until tox returns, there'd be some strong conjecture regarding heroin if there was any evidence of it (and that's one drug that does leave some tell tale signs that would have been in the press by now, which has been relatively respectful (surprisingly)).
In any case it is a damn shame...he was one of the better younger actors.
Ironically, I thought he's look of the Joker conjured image's of the Brandon Lee's Crow prior to his death...now its even more pronounced.

According to an article in yesyerday's NY Daily News, Jack Nicholson says he warned Heath about playing The Joker. Whatever that means.

Stipe Pays Live Homage To Ledger
Thursday, March 13, 2008
R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe paid an emotional tribute to tragic Heath Ledger - before launching into one of the actor's favorite songs.
The band dedicated their track "Until The Day Is Done" to Ledger in front of a packed crowd at Stubb's Barbecue during their stint at Austin, Texas' South By Southwest festival on Wednesday.
A visibly upset Stipe announced, "This is dedicated to Heath Ledger who loved this song," before shouting at the end, "Goodbye Heath, we loved you!"
Ledger suffered a fatal accidental overdose of prescription drugs in his New York apartment on January 22. He was 28.
As well as Stipe's moving homage to Ledger, R.E.M. used the 90-minute set to preview songs from their forthcoming album Accelerate, due out next month.
