I've been eyeing a Robin Trower show that is coming to town on April 2nd. He's playing a small venue with a seating capacity of about 700 and a great place to see a show.

I just found out that Shelby Lynne is coming to a town about 30 minutes away on the same night as the Trower. She's playing at an old theatre that sits 1,400.

I've been wanting to see both of these artists for quite awhile.

Which one should I go see?

I've not heard of either, but all things being equal I would always choose a local venue over traveling, even just a short distance.

I'd go with Robin!

Trower dude-a legendary guitarist! Shelby Lynne just sounds boring and I don't really know who she is-country/acoustic singer-songwriter/or folk?

I'd go with Shelby. She's better looking.and the music is a lot less likely to make your ears ring. Honestly, though, it all comes down to personal taste.

We saw Robin Trower a few years ago in a club and he was smokin'.

I wouldn't mind seeing Lynne in concert sometime, but given the choice, I'd go with Trower.

I love this place! Where else would you find someone with a dilemna like this, choosing between two such diverse, but equally talented, artists? It's wonderful that most contributors here enjoy a broad cross-section of music, rather than the genre-pigeonholing of some sites.

Ron, you don't mention the area where you reside, but most other things being equal, I would opt for the Trower show. My reasoning is based on the fact that, at his age, Robin might not tour for many more years (an assumption which might be completely wrong, admittedly). Whereas Shelby could conceivably tour for longer, and you would hopefully have more chances to catch her performing at a later date. Whichever you choose, though, have a great time!

Shelby, especially behind this CD. It will be the closest many of us will ever come now to seeing Dusty, or at least to hearing Dusty's music performed in such a beautiful and respectful way. I'm really happy that Atlanta is also on her itinerary, 'cause this tour is unmissable for me.

Hi Ron,
Go see Robin Trower. You'll be witnessing living history and a guitar wizard with a feeling. If you do go to see him, make damn sure you take some serious hearing protection with you. When I saw him nearby in Springfield back in the late '90s, he practically blew both ears and brains out of everybody who attended the show. It was incredibly loud.

I voted for Lynne. I saw Trower at one of the first shows I ever saw, opening, along with Rory Gallagher, for Jethro Tull at Shea and it was a blast. But I think what Lynne a real talent and I would love to hear live what she is doing with those Dusty songs.

Thanks everyone for the reponses! Right now I'm leaning toward Trower with the reasoning that NoPhoneNoPoolNoPets gives above. I think Shelby's got a big hit with her new CD and will be on the road for awhile and hopefully I can catch her later in the year. I live in Indianapolis and

Go see Trower. I did a couple of weeks ago and he was his normal greatness. You have plenty of time to see Shelby down the road. I did notice the tourbook they were selling said "First Farewell Tour" so he maybe retiring sooner than later.

Yes, do take earplugs. I was third row and during the first song it was too loud WITH the earplugs in until the soundman rolled it back some. Even at volume Robin's tone is perfect, nothing shrill.

Go see Trower, he's having financial difficulty and may not be able to arrange tours in the future. He's never received his just acclaim.
