Has anyone else noticed problems with the All Music Guide lately? I'm finding that it has become very sluggish, to the point of often hanging on queries. Furthermore, I've recently received odd messages about the IP I'm accessing from being a corporate account (my work account), but this goes away once I login. Anyone else having issues with the AMG?

For some reason, I do have more problems logging on to All-Music from work than I do from home. I've timed-out many times waiting for pages to load.

It usually causes Firefox to close itself about 3 or 4 pages into browsing the site. I don't have this problem with IE. On IE, it's just been slow. FWIW, it's been painfully slow since they overhauled the site about 3 or 4 years ago, and added stuff like cover art when you mouse over an item in a list.

It's a shame they have such good info and such a crappy site.

I have the same experience as Hank. In Firefox it just doesn't work, IE slow.

as stated above, ever since they "improved" it 3 or 4 years ago, it's been shit.

slow, times out, doesn't load properly, etc.

so much for "improvements"

I can't help but wonder if all of the Flash (or whatever) ads that they've been putting on have been slowing them down too. In any event, I've yet to be able to do anything there today. Sometimes I can get to the front page, other times not, but I've yet to do a successful query of any kind today. It's just dead.

It's been really slow for me the last couple months also. I also am still not happy with the site redesign of a couple years back; for one thing, the old reviews that they removed were much better then the ones they're using now.

Could be worse though............. just think it could be eBay (the most poorly coded major site on the internet).

Seems like it has issues with IE 6 more than IE 7 - I had a user at the library complain, and was insistent that it could not be firefox, as firefox is the greatest (yawn)

My understanding is that Firefox tries to be 100% complaint with open HTML standards; if a site is specifically writing for Microsoft standards, there may be some issues (though not as bad as a couple years ago).

There also was a very recent Sun Java update, & that's when I started having serious problems with ebay on all 3 of the browsers I can use on Win 98 (the most recent Firefox & Opera work with Win 98, but IE 7 DOES NOT). If you're seeing more issues with FF, I wonder if it's a combination of FF + the java updates?

Well, I just tried a search on All-Music, and couldn't get past the opening page. Boo hiss.

It finally loosened up in the past few hours. Otherwise, it's been entirely inaccessible this whole weekend.

AMG is the slowest site I go to. I couldn't tell any difference between IE7 & IE6. The one time it gave me a lock out access denied nasty-gram, I dumped all my cookies and got in OK.

I am not a registered user at AllMusic, but I am having a different sort of problem with the site. At my office, I like to listen to CD's on my laptop (HP/Compaq nc6320, Windows XP Professional, Windows Media Player 11). Whenever I pop in a new disc, Windows Media Player retrieves the Album Info from the internet, presumably from All Music Guide (at least, that is what it usually tells me). I would estimate that at least 20% of the time, the returned info has mistakes in it: wrong artist, track listing screwed up, spelling mistakes for the song or artists' names, etc. Once in a while, no info at all is found. For my homemade CD's or custom disks ordered directly from an artist's website, I wouldn't expect the info to be on AllMusic, but quite a few mainstream releases don't appear to be there either. This is extemely frustrating at times, and while I can make corrections locally in MP11, it doesn't alter the bad AMG info. I never had problems like this on my old office computer, which was running Media Player 9 or 10, and retrieved album info from CDDB GraceNotes, IIRC.

Would registering at the site give me access to make corrections/additions to the bogus info? It makes me wonder how such poor quality control can occur at what should be a reliable reference source.

Have you considered using Winamp or Nero Media Player instead of Windows media?

Thanks for the suggestions, Geff. I will explore the possibility, but since it is a company-owned computer, they are kinda strict about what software is approved to run on it, so we'll see.

My other question still remains unanswered, though. Should I register as a user for the site, and what privileges does one get by doing so?
