I'm stealing this from the Collector's Edition thread. I think it could make an interesting thread on its own.

I mentioned that I had purchased "Crosby, Stills, and Nash" at least 6 times -- the regular LP, the Nautilus Half-Speed Mastered LP, cassette (a gift for my brother), CD, Special Edition Gold CD, and remastered CD with extra tracks. I think I bought a crappy used LP once so I could get the original insert, but I won't count that.

Geff R. says he's purchased Jefferson Airplane's "After Bathing At Baxter's" 7 times. Wow.

What's the most purchases you've ever made of a single album? Can anybody top Geff's 7?

(JIMBO????)

I have purchased "Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols" 6 times.
Twice on LP (one scratched BADLY), once on Cassette, once for European LP release*, once on CD, and once in a box set with other Pistols stuff.

*not sure if buying the Euro release counts, but it probably should since the only difference is the order of the songs and album art. I don't know what was wrong with me. I had an obsession with buying vinyl in the early 90s/late 80s for some reason. :)

I think everything else I've bought more than once was because I moved from cassette or LP to CD.

The most I've ever purchased a single album multiple times would be three times each for the Beatles' "Revolver" and Queen's "A Night At The Opera". And when the new remasters come out, I'll pick up "Revolver" a fourth time.

I've purchased "Tommy" six different times over the years--twice on LP, three times on CD, and I also once picked it up on an 8-track tape at a flea market (never played it though). Still...I've never bought it on cassette and I never bought the original 2-disc MCA CD version, so I guarantee you that somebody has me beat...and please don't get me started on all of the various live CD/VHS/DVD performances out there, both official and bootleg...not to mention the movie soundtrack, the Broadway show and the orchestral version...

I think I'm at 5 for My Aim Is True. LP, CD, Ryko reissue, Rhino reissue, and I ordered the UMG reissue yesterday from BMG.

There are Beatles' fans who would put us all to shame in this category, buying multiple editions of Sgt. Pepper or Abbey Road from around the world. Anyway, I think I've got more copies of Dark Side of the Moon than any other:

US Capitol LP (2 mint copies w/ all inserts)
US Capitol picture disc
MoFi LP
Harvest CD (pressed in Japan)
Japanese mini-lp CD
20th (25th?) Anniversary CD (the one in the cardboard box)
MoFi Gold CD
SACD/CD (dual layered)
Shine On box set
Oh By the Way box set

That's 11...I might have overlooked one or two...

Jimbo puts me to shame once again. :-)

I have purchased two albums, four times each. I bought two copies of the "American Graffiti" soundtrack on vinyl (and wore them both out on my crappy turntable.) I also bought the cassette and (eventually) the CD version.

The only other album I have four copies of is the Neville Brothers' "Brothers Keeper." I have the US, German, Japanese and MFSL CDs.

There are MANY albums of which I have bought two copies though!

I know I got Born to Run three times (LP, CD and 30th anniversary). I own a few of those songs again on the Essential set.

I think four has been my limit, but there are a few of them:
ABC's "The Lexicon of Love" as LP, CD, UK single-disc remaster and UK 2-disc deluxe edition
The Who's "Tommy" as 2LP, CD, MFSL Gold CD and 2-disc deluxe edition
Boz Scaggs' "Silk Degrees" as LP, CD, MFSL CD and Legacy SBM Gold CD
Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds" as LP, CD, remastered CD and then box set
Fleetwood Mac's s/t LP from '75 and "Rumours," both as LPs, colored vinyl LPs, CDs and deluxe editions.
Kim Carnes' "Voyeur" as LP, Dutch import CD with no bonus tracks, One Way's first issue of the CD with erroneous "bonus track" of Susan Cowsill singing "Little Bit of Love" and finally One Way's corrected edition with a live version of "Still Hold On" taking the place of the Cowsill error. (One Way offered to swirch them out when I pointed out the errors with this and "Cafe Racers," but I wanted both versions; I was very impressed that they reissued both KC discs with the needed corrections almost immediately, and I did trade in the botched "Cafe Racers" for a corrected one.)

I have probably bought a couple hundred albums three times -- as LP, CD and some sort of remastered or expanded CD. This would include virtually all Chicago, Eurythmics, Rod Stewart, Alan Parsons Project, ABBA. ELO, Icehouse, Moody Blues, Elton John, Sweet, Squeeze, Talk Talk, Boston, Foreigner, Paul Young and Pet Shop Boys releases that came out prior to 1986. Plus Fleetwood Mac's "Tusk" and numerous others. And even with no vinyl counterpart, it took three version's of Def Leppard's "Yeah!" to get all the associated bonus tracks.

This sure is a sobering thread.

I'm humbled by your multiple purchases and cannot even hope to compete:

Lorraine Ellison: 3 copies of the "Sister Love" box
The Beach Boys: 3 copies of "Pet Sounds" - '87 Mark Linett remaster, box set mono, box set stereo

I am one of those Beatles collectors Jimbo mentioned. I have hundreds of vinyl Beatles albums and singles from around the world, and have no idea which I have the most of. I'm sure I have at least about 20 versions of each album, even more for some of the singles....

Did Yoko sue them for listing McCartney first, five years before she met John?

Queen's A Night At The Opera is well represented in my house. I even have the 2 different DTS mixes that came out from the band (the last one was the Brian May special mix).

I've been buying this album since it was a vinyl lp. Had the cassette, the 8 track, the first CD, the remasters, the Japanese editions......
