I agree with most of the ones mentioned so far and would add:

"Anyone Who Had a Heart" -- Dionne Warwick or Dusty Springfield
"Oh Girl" -- Paul Young or Chi-Lites
"I Only Want to Be With You" -- Dusty Springfield or Bay City Rollers or Tourists or Shelby Lynne
"Supernature" -- Cerrone or Erasure
"Pink Cadillac" -- Bruce Springsteen or Natalie Cole
"Battlefield" -- Paul Carrack or Diana Ross
"Voyeur" -- Kim Carnes or Sue Saad
"Sugar on Sunday" -- Clique or Tommy James

and although there's no equal to the Supremes' "Stop in the Name of Love," I love the Hollies' version, too.

I'd go with Dionne's version of "I Say A Little Prayer." No knock on Dusty's, but I like Dionne's better.

And as for Spanish Harlem, my favorite version is Laura Nyro's.

How about "Woodstock." CSN&Y or Joni Mitchell? Or Ian Matthew's Southern Comfort?
"You've Got A Friend," James Taylor or Carole King?
"A Little Help From My Friends," the Beatles or Joe Cocker?

I love "Norwegian Wood" by the Beatles, but I also love the jazz instrumental version that Herbie Hancock did in the 90s. It's a good example of how different backing chords can put the main melody into a whole different context.

"Higher and Higher"--Jackie Wilson or Rita Coolidge. No, really.
"Wild Night"--Van Morrison or John Mellencamp

I love Suzi Quatro's version--she doesn't change the gender.

Ooh...excellent choice, er, non-choice!

Rare Earth's is totally badass and depending on the edit, can be like 20 minutes long, but the original is by far Eddie's best vocal.

Rhino released a whole CD of Louie Louie covers back in the early '90s, but isn't The Kingsmen version the one most of us know best? I can't think of any other versions off hand.

Richard Berry
Paul Revere & The Raiders
Beach Boys
Sandpipers
The Fat Boys
Young MC
ROBERT PLANT.

When I was in high school, the New Age station in town decided to change to an oldies format. In the two weeks between when they pulled the New Age and had the marketing ready for the Oldies format, they announced they were now "Louie 101.1 - All 'Louie, Louie' All the time!" They played nothing but various versions of the song for two weeks straight. It generated quite a buzz at the time.

Yes, I own the Paul Revere, Beach Boys, and Sandpipers versions, now that you mention them. Richard Berry wrote Louie Louie - how is his version?

I like either versions of "She's Not There" done by the Zombies, Santana and John Taylor.
Both versions of "Some Guys Have All The Luck" by Rod Stewart and Robert Palmer.

Also like both versions of "Let's Spend The Night Together" by the Rolling Stones and David Bowie.

But, I also like Klaus Nomi's cover version also.
