This link was forwarded to me by a friend who knows I use a lot of double CD cases. Fortunately, I do not use this variety, but wanted to pass along this link in case anyone here is using CompUSA brand double-disc cases... http://www.yoyo-tricks.com/CompUSA-WARNING.html

I've bought similar-looking cases from Staples (like that page mentions) but I just went and checked and the hubs look nothing like the hubs pictured.
I have to wonder if the people behind that webpage are taking advantage of the fact that Comp USA has indeed ceased to exist (and therefore probably won't sue) in a clever attempt to sell their jewel boxes.

Totally off subject, but I had one of the CDs in my Monkees "Music Box" set to crack due to this type of centerpiece, and I was wondering if there is any way to get another disc without buying the whole set again?

Go to Rhino.com and email customer service (or Dr. Rhino). There have been times when they've sent me a single disc from a set as a replacement. Explain the problem to them and offer to send them the original disc if they want it. Good luck!

I don't recall ever seeing hubs like the type pictured on their website... ...on any jewel boxes of that type that I have. I would think at first that these people were, indeed, providing a public service by pointing this out... ...however, their little "By the way, if you want to know where to buy some excellent 2CD cases that will not harm your CDs, check out..." at the end makes me inclined to agree with AMW's comment: AMW wrote: I have to wonder if the people behind that webpage are taking advantage of the fact that Comp USA has indeed ceased to exist (and therefore probably won't sue) in a clever attempt to sell their jewel boxes. Hmmmmm.....

Oh, I don't know...he mentions several other places to buy "good" jewel cases, not just one. It looks like an honest warning to me -- I appreciate this kind of info.
I do like his opening line: "I have a huge music collection (approximately 2000 CDs)...." Very cute. He's obviously never met Jimbo.

I had this sort of thing happen a few years ago with my double cd cases. I don't remember if I was buying them at CompUSA or somewhere else. Anyway, after losing a few discs in exactly the same way shown in those pictures, I stopped using double cases and just put two-cd sets into two single cases and reproed the art twice.
By the way, I've never had this happen with official label-produced CDs and cases, only on the stuff I've burned. Probably could have avoided the problem by mail ordering higher-end cases.

I don't remember ever seeing the round disc holder pieces, but I have ALOT of after market 2 cd slimline cases so I may check a few.....
BTW, I buy most of my cases from American Digital & they are a reliable company. I also buy from Super Media.

In a related story, Shelby Lynne's new "Just A Little Lovin'" CD (Best Buy digipak version that I have anyway) has this awful clear plastic hub which is solid on the top, with 5 little springy things around the side edge. Just like some of the Yes digipak reissues on Rhino from years past. The pressure is not constant on the CD's when stored, as they will actually spin around free. But when you remove the CD's, you have to fiddle with them in varying degrees of difficulty in order to get them over the top of the hub. How are we supposed to do that without bending or 'stretching' the CD? You run the same danger of cracking the CD hole as mentioned above. One technique that is partially successful is to rotate the CD on the hub as you apply upward lift pressure, but I don't entirely like that either. I wanna grab the 'engineer' that came up with this cockamamie idea and slap him around...

Last year, I had a cd in a $100+ Mosaic box set crack all the way through the first time I removed it from the case. It was a slim 2 cd case, but I don't believe it had the round bumps. Fortunately, Mosaic replaced the disc with no argument at all. I obviously threw out all the cases from the box, & put the cd's in aftermarket cases.
Mosaic said I was the only person who had reported this to them......
