Any bit of good news during this time of vanishing record/CD stores needs to be shared! I read in Las Vegas Weekly that the great Zia Records is not only in NO danger of closing down, but they are opening a second Vegas store next week!

To me, that's a WOW!

That is good news! The last time I was in Vegas (Feb. '06), the Virgin Megastore at Caesar's had closed and I was quite sad. However, I got a cab to take me wayyyyy off the Strip to Tower Records and had a blast shopping for CD's while my wife gambled at the Stratosphere. Then I stood in the Nevada sun waiting over two hours for a cab (cab drivers don't like to make trips wayyyyy off the Strip, so they just go from one mega-hotel to the next), but I loved Tower and my enjoyable shopping trip so much that I didn't mind. I was looking forward to my next visit to Vegas and Tower, but we know how that turned out. I'll keep Zia Records in mind and maybe rent a car!

Great! There will be 2 Zia's by that time. The new one will be on Sahara, so it could be right by the Strip - depending upon where on Sahara it is. Send me a message if you're coming - maybe I could pick you up and drive us to Zia. Why pay for a cab if I'm around?

The last two times fellow IMWAN/ICErs came out to Vegas we weren't able to meet up. The first time the visitor understandably had just a couple of short days to spend here with his lovely wife, and the second visitor caught me at a time when I was swamped with "moving into a new home" headaches, so I wasn't able to make it that time.

I was bummed when the Megastore at the Forum Shops closed, too. That was my hang-out while the wife and two daughters shopped in all the other Caesar's stores!

I always forget about Zia's when I'm in Vegas... will have to keep it in mind next time for any leftover non-drinking/non-gambling/non-womanizing time I can spare. :)
