It seems like more and more CDs these days are coming inside of cardboard slipcovers, particularly compilations and reissues. The question is, what do you do with these cardboard slipcovers? Does the anal retentive collector in you keep them at all costs or do you immediately spot the inconvenience of them and throw them away?

I vote to recycle them but there's an exception. ECM, among some others has different material on the slipcover than on the case. Sometimes there is no title or tracklisting once you remove the slipcover. In those instances I keep them. But I don't like it.

Another vote for recycle. Don't have the space to sacrifice. and they don't add anything from my perspective. Same with DVD slipcovers.

For the most part, I toss them. Unfortunately, that type of cardboard doesn't get recycled around here, so it's that much more crap going into a landfill.

I could have sworn that that's why they stopped using the longboxes.

I keep them. I find many of them to be attractive, plus I'm sure they help keep the jewel case from getting scuffed up.

The answer is clearly to send them to Jimbo and rjp.

I keep them. I'm sorry I didn't do a better job of preserving some of them (my cardboard slipcovers for the 2-disc "Who's Last" and MSFL "Quadrophenia" sets are battered, to say the least) but the other day I got out my 1997 editions of the three 2-disc "Star Wars" soundtracks, and noticed that while the outer slipcovers are somewhat dinged up, the bound, booklet-style CD holder inside is virtually flawless.

While I don't treat them the same way I treat obi strips--I store my Japanese discs in plastic sleeves with the obi in place--I probably should...

More annoying to me are the cardboard slipcovers that often come with new release DVD's, but I never throw those out either. I guess a part of me assumes that my grandchildren will someday be able to put themselves through college with auction proceeds from the sale of my original "Spiderman 2" packaging.

OK, I'm kidding. But although I'm not overly fond of slipcovers, my attitude is pretty much thatt I paid for them, they came with the disc, somebody took the time to design and manufacture them, so I might as well keep them.

Throw them away? That's insane. They take up almost no additional space and are part of the graphics. Then again, I also keep the stickers that are on the plastic of the new CDs I buy, so perhaps I'm not the most reasonable person to ask...

I usually keep them but I have thrown some away in the past. I know I chucked some DCC's.

Some cardboard slipcases are more essential than others.

Hahahaha! I take enough ribbing from family and friends that I thought I was the only one who kept those stickers. Thank goodness for a board like this: I'm not alone! :ohyes:

I tend to keep the cardboard slipcovers, and I have a collection of the old longboxes, too.

Or to me...especially if anyone wants to lose a slipcover for the Legacy Edition Barry Manilow Live or the Deluxe Edition Bob Marley & The Wailers Burnin'. Bought them both used, and apparently from someone who thought like the blasphemers here who toss them.

PM me if you seriously have those and want to toss. I'll pay the shipping!!!

I keep them too. I actually think most of them look nice and help to enhance the overall look of the packaging.

I knew this one would be a landslide! Closer than I was expecting, probably due to some voters from upstairs. From past discussions, I sense that I have very little company from old-time ICErs on this! 8-)

Renny,

Which ones do you need? I have a few DCC slipcovers that I'm getting ready to recycle.
