(1) All of the CD's that are buried at the bottom of piles, or behind other stacks, or otherwise not easily accessible (my "storage system" is utter chaos, with piles scattered wherever there is space)

(2) The "iconic" pieces in my collection (those classics I cut my teeth on, that I used to listen to on vinyl all the time, and know by heart)

(3) The Traveling Wilburys :sigh:

Does anybody listen to The Cars anymore?

A few years ago, I was picking up some Chinese take-out on my way home from work, and had to park about two blocks away. Walking up the sidewalk, I saw some freaky-looking dude carrying a pack approaching me, and he had somewhat of a glazed serial-killer look in his eyes. I tried to give him as wide a berth as possible and avoid eye contact, but as we were about to pass, he suddenly stopped, assumed air-guitar position, and spurted out at me "You think you're so illustrious/You call yourself intense!". Then he simply bopped on down the street, and that was when I noticed the iPod earphones he was wearing. Took me a while to place the lyrics to "Bye Bye Love" from The Cars' first album, and get over the shock of him "sharing" that line with me, but now whenever I hear that song I can't help but think of this.

I still listen to The Cars' first 3 or 4 albums, but I haven't listened to The New Cars disc anymore since it first came out!

Someone mentioned Sgt. Peppers. I loved that album from the first spin. Sadly, I can't stand it anymore and have not been able to enjoy it for a couple of decades. Back to albums that I did not like that I do now. America, especially the first several albums. I couldn't stand them way back then. A couple of years ago I pulled out an America album and now i have nearly every CD by them.

Jimi Hendrix - Stages box set

David Ruffin - David

The Band - The Last Waltz

There are many others but those pop into my head. I have listened to each CD (Over 3500) at least once though to make sure that there are no defects.

Whenever I review my collection to sell off -- typically items that had been remastered or upgraded (better comp), or something that was too much of an impulse based on a single song (Sum 41 anyone?), or finding a strong enough comp for an artist that eliminates the need for original releases (typically someone I am not completeist for and only have a disc or two - Pearl Jam comes to mind) -- I alway put Counting Crows debut in the sell stack. Then, as I always do, I relisten to the discs one last time - and I always keep the Crows...but I never listen to it again until that time rolls around (which may be soon - although now I simply give them away to friends/family if interested).

(Unlike many others here, I am able to listen to my music all the time, and do so. Granted, I don't have the numbers many others here - about 2700 titles (maybe about 100 being box sets (ID'd as 3 or more discs - minus live Dead. .moe Releases), and not counting live shows from trades).)

I would probably put my Smithereens 21 CD megaset on this list. My typical MO is to play my CDs at least once before putting them in my permanent collection but this thing is so voluminous, I'm not sure when I'll get all the way through it. That said, it is so rare (relatively speaking) I'll never part with it...
