I know they've been trying to be more "inclusive" when choosing Best Album nominees, but does Vince Gill or Herbie Hancock really have a chance?

Boy was I shocked when they announced Herbie's name!

I enjoyed a lot of the performances. Kanye and Daft Punk were exciting, although Kanye proved he's still a classless jerk during his acceptance speech. The older performers all sounded pretty good--Tina, Little Richard, even Keely Smith--but some seemed a little shakey as presenters, especially Andy Williams.

Winehouse wasn't a complete trainwreck, but she did slur a few words Alicia Key's necroduet with Sinatra was kinda creepy.

O.k. You know what I took out of this year's Grammy Awards? As a result of watching the broadcast and then going to the official Grammy online site towards the end of the show, I discovered a CD which was listed as being nominated in something like the Best Liner Notes for a(n) Historical Album (something along those lines). Because of that, I have just put Off The Record: The Complete 1923 Recordings of King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band on my High Priority list of titles. I"ll need to clear some money for when there's a long enough lull in all of the pre-orders I do for various things. This one slipped by me as far as my radar is concerned and I can't recall if it was mentioned here last year or if I hadn't bothered to pay attention. But I am thankfully aware of this baby now.

At times the Grammy's looked like a Grammy's your grannie would enjoy! Many of the artists were over 60 years old!

I'm sure any young person watching was thinking who the hell is that dancing with Beyonce?!

It seemed to be a very schizophrenic awards show. It was all over the place and then ended with a "huh?" when Herbie Hancock won for a jazz album. Will that save the music industry? And where was Michael Jackson? It is the 25th Anniv of Thriller.

I thought Amy Winehouse (one of the big winners) sounded decent live from London (where it was 04:30AM).
She looked a bit shocked to be out and about without massive drugs in her system and an audience in front of her.
Was that her mother with her? And she had to give a shout-out to her "incarcerated" boyfriend/husband.

She'll never get better hanging out with that guy. In a few years it will be a trivia question....who won Best New Artist in 2008? Amy Crackhouse or something. :)

Amy Winehouse's Grammy victory slammed as 'bad example'

Singer Natalie Cole has slammed the decision to award Amy Winehouse with five Grammy Awards, claiming that it is rewarding her bad behaviour.

Cole, a Grammy Award winner herself who admitted to using the drugs LSD, heroin and cocaine in her 2000 autobiography, said that Winehouse did not deserve the honours.

“I don't think she should have won,” Cole, the daughter of legendary singer Nat King Cole, told People magazine. “It sends a bad message to young people trying to get into this business, trying to do it right and keep themselves together.

“We have to stop rewarding bad behaviour,” she continued. “I think she is gifted, her performance was fine. I just feel she's stepping into a place she hasn't earned yet.

“She could die. This isn't something that's cute and fun to throw around in the press. Those of us who have been in the business long enough know the sacrifice it takes. You don't just get to do your drugs and go onstage and get rewarded.”
