Our local classic rock station 104.3FM plays the top 1043 songs of all-time on Thanksgiving weekend every year and its a joy to listen too.

Its like the ultimate IPOD.

Today I heard "Love Is Like Oxygen" by The Sweet (full version)/ "Peaches en Regalia" by Zappa/ "Hocus Pocus" by Focus/ "Watcher Of the Skies" by Genesis/ "Ghost Riders Of The Sky" by The Outlaws.

Stuff the normal classic rock programming ignores on a daily basis.

I love these deep cuts.

Anything similar in your area?

These lists are usually really off base to my taste. The VH1 lists may be the worst of all.

SOW, does anyone know of a site that shows every 2007 release so we can do a best of 2007 thread?

The info provided in Wikipedia is not always accurate, but they have a long list of albums released this year, the longest list I've seen.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:2007_albums

Also, there are lists on metacritic.com and stylus magazine that are pretty good.

Today I heard "And You And I" by Yes and "2112" by Rush. Again these are songs we usually don't hear on Radio anymore.

What makes this more unusual is that these 2 songs scored higher than songs that are heard daily...day in/day out like "Welcome To The Jungle" by Gn or "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica.

So you'd think Radio would see this list of songs and realize people do want to hear "Wooden Ships" more often that the upteenth playing of "Another Brick In The Wall".

That Wikipedia list looks pretty close to complete. I wish they had it sorted by artist, though.

I only own 1 cd on Metacritics top 20 of 2007 list, the Plant/Krauss; & they have a much higher opinion of it then I do. I don't own any of the Stylus top 50 of 2007. Perhaps I've become irrelevant (or completely out of touch?)??!

Here;s the final Top 20:

20
Beatles
Sgt. Peppers/A Day In The Life

19
Don Mclean
American Pie

18
Queen
Bohemian Rhapsody

17
Rolling Stones
Gimme Shelter

16
Bruce Springsteen
Thunder Road

15
Led Zeppelin
Kashmir

14
Pink Floyd
Welcome To The Machine

13
John Lennon
Imagine

12
Rolling Stones
Satisfaction

11
Beatles
Let It Be

10
Rolling Stones
Sympathy For The Devil

9
Pink Floyd
Comfortably Numb

8
Eagles
Hotel California

7
Bruce Springsteen
Born To Run

6
Who
Won’t Get Fooled Again

5
Who
Baba O'riley

4
Beatles
Hey Jude

3
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Free Bird

2
Derek & The Dominos
Layla

1
Led Zeppelin
Stairway To Heaven

And once again Led Zep wins #1. Surprises for me is how high "American Pie" scored and the 2 Who songs in the Top 6!!

This is just NYers voting so it may be region specific. NY is a big Who area.

Also Floyd's "Welcome To The Machine" scored very high. Nothing from Dark Side made the Top 20.

Also looks like their target audience is very specifically late 60's-mid 70's FM arena rock.

I'm not sure if it was the studio version or the live version that placed that high but the live version has always been big in NY.

Southern Rock has always been big here, especially on Long Island.

I can still remember the late 70's when we used to see shows by Molly Hatchett/ The Outlaws/ .38 Special/ Charlie Daniels/ etc.....

The version from "One More From the Road" is definitely the best.
